Gnomeregan is a five-player WoW Forever dungeon beneath western Dun Morogh, built through the irradiated ruins of the former gnomish capital. The practical dungeon range is approximately 29–38. Current difficulty guidance places level 25 at Hard, level 30 at Medium, level 33 at At Level and level 38 at Easy.
Gnomeregan is one of the most preparation-heavy leveling dungeons in WoW Forever. Alliance players can stack a large quest package from Ironforge, Stormwind and Kharanos, while Horde players have a unique teleport chain through Orgrimmar and Booty Bay. The dungeon also contains the Workshop Key, punch-card progression, Sparklematic 5200, Engineering materials, a rare boss and several updated Forever loot pieces.
Quick answer: aim for level 33 for a comfortable first full clear, collect every faction quest before travelling, Horde should unlock the Goblin Transponder, Alliance should finish the prerequisites for Gnogaine and Save Techbot's Brain!, use the front entrance for a first complete run, loot the Workshop Key from Electrocutioner 6000 and save Thermaplugg's bomb room for the end.

Gnomeregan Location and Entrance
The exterior entrance to Gnomeregan is in western Dun Morogh, west of Kharanos and Brewnall Village. The large outer gate is around 24, 40 on the Dun Morogh map. After entering the city tunnels, take the elevator down and continue through the Train Depot toward the instance portals.

Alliance Route
Alliance players have the simplest access. Travel west from Ironforge through Dun Morogh toward Gnomeregan, enter the large outer complex and take the elevator into the underground tunnels.
Several Alliance quest objectives, including Techbot and irradiated trogg objectives, are located in the exterior tunnel complex rather than inside the actual instance, so do not rush directly through the portal.
How Horde Gets to Gnomeregan
Horde players do not need to repeatedly cross Alliance territory. Gnomeregan has a dedicated teleport chain:
- Pick up Rig Wars from Nogg in Orgrimmar's Valley of Honor.
- Speak to Sovik nearby for Chief Engineer Scooty.
- Travel from Ratchet to Booty Bay.
- Find Scooty near the docks.
- Complete Gnomer-gooooone!.
- Use the Goblin Transponder and teleporter for direct Gnomeregan access.
This chain is worth completing even if you are not immediately finishing Rig Wars because it removes the long and dangerous overland journey on future runs.
Front Entrance, Back Door and Workshop Key
Gnomeregan has two instance entrances in the Train Depot.
Front entrance: this is the normal choice for a first complete run. It leads toward Clockwork Run, the Hall of Gears, Grubbis and Viscous Fallout.
Workshop entrance: this is a shortcut into the Engineering Labs near Crowd Pummeler 9-60. It requires the Workshop Key or approximately 150 Lockpicking from a Rogue.
The Workshop Key drops from Electrocutioner 6000. Once somebody in the group has it, future partial runs and targeted farming become substantially faster.

Gnomeregan is a multi-level dungeon. Hall of Gears, Clean Zone, Dormitory, Launch Bay, Engineering Labs and Tinkers' Court connect through corridors that can look similar, so following a route map is much safer than improvising on a first run.

All Core Gnomeregan Quests
Current Forever guides expose 13 core dungeon-related quest entries when the Horde teleport chain, inside-dungeon quests and item-started ring quest are included. Some databases display a lower total because they count only quests picked up before entering.

Alliance Quest Preparation
Save Techbot's Brain!
Techbot is in the exterior Gnomeregan tunnel system near the Workshop side, not deep inside the dungeon. Kill Techbot and loot the required Memory Core before entering if your route passes him.
Gnogaine and The Only Cure is More Green Glow
Both come from Ozzie Togglevolt in Kharanos. Gnogaine requires collecting a radioactive sample from a dead irradiated trogg. After turning it in, return for The Only Cure is More Green Glow.
The follow-up is more awkward because the sample must be taken from a living irradiated slime, lurker or horror. Do not kill the target before using the collection phial.
Gyrodrillmatic Excavationators
Shoni the Shilent in Stormwind asks for 24 Robo-mechanical Guts. These drop throughout Gnomeregan and are easy to combine with a complete run.
Essential Artificials
Collect 12 Essential Artificials placed around the dungeon. Check behind machinery, corners and pillars rather than relying only on the main path.
Data Rescue and Punch Cards
Data Rescue uses the famous Gnomeregan punch-card chain:
- Loot a White Punch Card outside Gnomeregan.
- Use the A-series terminal near Techbot to obtain Yellow.
- Use the B-series terminal after the Clean Zone for Blue.
- Use the C-series terminal around Electrocutioner 6000 for Red.
- Use the D-series terminal below Crowd Pummeler 9-60 for the Prismatic Punch Card.
This is one of the easiest objectives to ruin by skipping a terminal and continuing too far into the instance.
The Grand Betrayal
High Tinker Mekkatorque sends Alliance players to kill Mekgineer Thermaplugg. Current reward choices include Civinad Robes, Triprunner Dungarees and Dual Reinforced Leggings.
Horde Quest Preparation
Rig Wars
Nogg sends you after two final-area objectives:
- Rig Blueprints from a chest in Thermaplugg's room;
- Thermaplugg's Safe Combination from Mekgineer Thermaplugg.
Do not leave Tinkers' Court immediately after the boss. Loot both objectives first.
Chief Engineer Scooty and Gnomer-gooooone!
These quests form the Horde access chain. Rig Wars must be in your quest log before Sovik offers Chief Engineer Scooty. Scooty in Booty Bay then unlocks the teleporter and Goblin Transponder.
Quests Started Inside Gnomeregan
The Sparklematic 5200!
Grime-Encrusted Objects drop throughout Gnomeregan. Bring them to the Sparklematic machines in the Clean Zone. The first completion awards experience and a Sparklematic-Wrapped Box; later uses are primarily for additional boxes.
Grime-Encrusted Ring
A Grime-Encrusted Ring can start a separate quest at level 28. Clean it using the Sparklematic, then continue to the faction-specific Return of the Ring chain.
Alliance can eventually obtain Talvash's Gold Ring, while Horde can obtain Nogg's Gold Ring.
A Fine Mess
Kernobee is found after the Clean Zone in the Dormitory area. Clear the route before starting the escort and make sure every eligible player accepts the quest first.
Recommended Full-Clear Route
- Complete exterior objectives such as Techbot and the first irradiated samples.
- Enter through the front entrance.
- Start the Blastmaster Emi Shortfuse event and kill Grubbis.
- Clear Hall of Gears and kill Viscous Fallout.
- Use the Clean Zone for Sparklematic objectives.
- Handle Kernobee only after the nearby route is safe.
- Keep upgrading the Data Rescue punch card at each terminal.
- Move into the Launch Bay and kill Electrocutioner 6000.
- Loot the Workshop Key.
- Continue toward Engineering Labs and kill Crowd Pummeler 9-60.
- Complete the final punch-card upgrade.
- Check the route toward Tinkers' Court for rare Dark Iron Ambassador.
- Kill Mekgineer Thermaplugg.
- Alliance completes The Grand Betrayal; Horde loots Safe Combination and Rig Blueprints.
- Check all ring, Sparklematic, quest and Engineering objectives before leaving.
Gnomeregan Bosses
| Encounter | Type | Main Mechanics |
|---|---|---|
| Grubbis | Primary | Emi Shortfuse event, Chomper/add pressure |
| Viscous Fallout | Primary | Patrolling irradiated floor; Frost immunity in tested data |
| Electrocutioner 6000 | Primary | Chain Bolt, Megavolt, Shock |
| Crowd Pummeler 9-60 | Primary | Arcing Smash, Crowd Pummel, Trample |
| Dark Iron Ambassador | Rare | Fireball, Fire Shield, Burning Servant |
| Mekgineer Thermaplugg | Final boss | Walking Bombs, dispenser buttons, Knock Away |
Grubbis Strategy and Loot
Speak with Blastmaster Emi Shortfuse to begin the cave event. Waves of troggs attack while Emi prepares explosives. Grubbis appears during the later wave with Chomper.
Keep Emi alive, stabilize each wave and avoid carrying unnecessary trash into the boss spawn. Grubbis and Chomper can be controlled with several normal stun and fear effects in the tested version.
Grubbis Loot
- Grubbis Paws — Mail Hands;
- Skullduggery Belt — Leather Waist;
- Irradiated Shield — Shield with Nature spell value.
Viscous Fallout Strategy and Loot
Viscous Fallout patrols the irradiated lower floor in Hall of Gears. Clear a safe area before engaging so the patrol does not bring additional enemies into the fight.
Current client-tracked data indicates Frost immunity, making Frost-heavy damage substantially worse for this encounter.
Viscous Fallout Loot
- Acidic Walkers — Cloth Feet;
- Hydrocane — Two-Hand Staff;
- Toxic Revenger — One-Hand Dagger.
Electrocutioner 6000 Strategy and Loot
Electrocutioner 6000 stands on the elevated platform in the Launch Bay.
Chain Bolt punishes players standing too close together. Megavolt attacks in front of the boss, so melee should avoid the frontal area, while Shock adds pressure to the tank.
Electrocutioner Loot
- Electrocutioner Leg — Main-Hand Sword;
- Electrocutioner Lagnut — Ring;
- Spidertank Oilrag — Cloth Wrist;
- Workshop Key — opens Gnomeregan's rear entrance.
Crowd Pummeler 9-60 Strategy and Loot
Position the boss so melee players can avoid the frontal Arcing Smash. Ranged and healers should stand toward maximum range because Crowd Pummel can interrupt nearby casters.
Trample and Crowd Pummel both create AoE pressure around the boss, so unnecessary melee stacking increases healer load.
Crowd Pummeler Loot
- Manual Crowd Pummeler — Two-Hand Mace;
- Gnomebot Operating Boots — Leather Feet;
- Thermaplugg Medal of Honor — Neck;
- Schematic: 9-60 Battery Pack — Forever Engineering drop reported in current client data.
Dark Iron Ambassador Rare
Dark Iron Ambassador can appear in the corridor approaching Tinkers' Court and is not guaranteed on every run.
Interrupt Fireball, do not waste Fire damage into Fire Shield and kill summoned Burning Servants quickly.
Dark Iron Ambassador Loot
- Emissary Cuffs;
- Glass Shooter;
- Royal Diplomatic Scepter.
Mekgineer Thermaplugg Strategy and Loot
Thermaplugg is fought in Tinkers' Court. Six dispensers around the room can release Walking Bombs.
The bomb dispensers are the encounter. Assign a mobile player to watch the buttons and disable active dispensers, or have ranged DPS kill Walking Bombs before they reach the group.
Thermaplugg also uses Knock Away, which can reduce the tank's threat. The tank should immediately regain control after each knockback instead of assuming threat is unchanged.
Thermaplugg Loot
- Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator — Cloth Head;
- Charged Gear — Ring;
- Thermaplugg's Central Core — Shield;
- Thermaplugg's Left Arm — Two-Hand Axe;
- multiple Engineering schematics, including classic Gnomeregan recipes.

Best Gnomeregan Loot by Role
Caster DPS: Hydrocane, Electrocutioner Lagnut, Spidertank Oilrag and Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator are standout targets.
Healers: Royal Diplomatic Scepter, Hydrocane and several quest rewards offer strong value in this level range.
Physical melee: Manual Crowd Pummeler, Electrocutioner Leg, Thermaplugg's Left Arm and several zone-drop weapons are major targets.
Hunters: Glass Shooter and other ranged zone drops can be useful, while several mail pieces provide leveling upgrades.
Tanks: Thermaplugg's Central Core and appropriate mail or defensive quest rewards are the most direct targets.
Engineers: Gnomeregan remains one of the most important leveling dungeons for Engineering recipes, parts and schematics.
Important Trash and Dungeon Hazards
Irradiated enemies: some Alliance quest samples must be taken while targets are alive, so verify quest objectives before killing everything.
Dark Iron agents: these are relevant for Grime-Encrusted Ring and other dungeon items.
Multi-level rooms: accidental falls can split the group or pull an entirely different floor. Do not jump simply because another player disappears over an edge.
Engineering machines: punch-card terminals and Sparklematic machines are progression tools, not decoration. Missing one can force significant backtracking.
Recommended Group and Preparation
A normal setup of one tank, one healer and three DPS works well, but Gnomeregan rewards utility more than many early dungeons.
- Bring ranged damage for Walking Bombs.
- Bring interrupts for Dark Iron Ambassador.
- Use crowd control during the Grubbis event and dangerous mixed pulls.
- Keep quest phials, punch cards and Grime-Encrusted Objects until their purpose is complete.
- Leave substantial bag space.
- Horde should unlock the teleporter before planning repeated runs.
- Do not use the Workshop shortcut on your first quest-loaded run unless you know which objectives it bypasses.
Gnomeregan Mistakes to Avoid
- Going straight to the portal and skipping exterior quest objectives.
- Horde travelling through Dun Morogh without unlocking the teleport chain.
- Skipping a Data Rescue punch-card terminal.
- Killing radioactive targets before using the quest phial.
- Leaving Electrocutioner without looting the Workshop Key.
- Starting Kernobee before the escort path is clear.
- Standing together during Electrocutioner's Chain Bolt.
- Standing in front of Crowd Pummeler during Arcing Smash.
- Ignoring Dark Iron Ambassador adds.
- Ignoring Walking Bomb dispensers during Thermaplugg.
- Leaving Thermaplugg's room before collecting faction quest objects.
Is Gnomeregan Worth Repeating?
The first fully prepared run gives the highest guaranteed value because Gnomeregan has an unusually large quest package. Repeat runs become attractive once you own the Workshop Key and can use the rear entrance for more targeted farming.
Strong reasons to repeat include Manual Crowd Pummeler, Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator, Hydrocane, specific Engineering schematics, Dark Iron Ambassador loot and incomplete Sparklematic or ring objectives.
WoW Forever Gnomeregan Boost
Players who want help with a full clear, Mekgineer Thermaplugg, Workshop Key, quest objectives or targeted boss kills can use our WoW Forever Gnomeregan Boost.
Outside prerequisites, Horde teleport unlocks, random rare spawns and random boss or schematic drops cannot be assumed to complete in a single run unless the selected service specifically includes them.
