WoW Forever Satchel of Potions How to Get It and All Effects

WoW Forever Satchel of Potions How to Get It and All Effects

Satchel of Potions in WoW Forever is a reusable trinket obtained through faction-specific quests connected to Excavation Site: Wetlands. Horde players can choose it from Changing Tastes, while Alliance players receive it by completing the Lost in the Thicket Things and Heartwoven quest chain. Using the satchel triggers one of four random effects: health restoration, mana restoration, increased movement speed or Fire damage to your own character. The trinket has a 10-minute cooldown and can be useful during leveling, but its unpredictable effects make it unreliable as an emergency consumable. This guide covers both acquisition routes, quest requirements, exact effects, restrictions and when the item is worth equipping.

Short answer: Satchel of Potions is an item level 33 trinket available to both factions from level-24 dungeon quests. Horde characters complete Changing Tastes for Borstan in Orgrimmar and must select the satchel instead of Serrated Raptor Claw. Alliance characters complete Lost in the Thicket Things, find Ardin Grassman inside Excavation Site: Wetlands and return his Reed-woven Heart to Caitlin Grassman through Heartwoven. The satchel randomly restores 455–585 health, restores 455–585 mana, increases movement speed by 50% for 15 seconds or inflicts 216 Fire damage on its user. Each activation starts a 10-minute cooldown.

What Is Satchel of Potions in WoW Forever?

Satchel of Potions is a new trinket introduced in World of Warcraft: Forever. It has item ID 280766, item level 33 and a bind-on-pickup restriction. Unlike ordinary consumable potions, the satchel remains in your inventory after use and can be activated again when its cooldown expires.

The item's tooltip reads:

Use: Reach into the bag and hope for the best. (10 Min Cooldown)

Its accompanying flavor text is "Not every potion is meant for consumption." That warning is relevant to the actual mechanic because one of the four possible outcomes damages your character instead of providing a benefit.

Satchel of Potions occupies a trinket slot and has no listed passive attributes. Its value comes entirely from the activated effect. Players looking for reliable damage, healing or defensive statistics should therefore compare it with their other available trinkets.

The item is associated with Excavation Site: Wetlands, a five-player dungeon introduced during the Forever beta. Although the Horde and Alliance quests differ, they both lead to the same trinket with the same four possible effects.

The broader WoW Forever Dungeon Quests guide covers dungeon quest requirements, starting NPCs and rewards across the game. This article focuses on the two ways to obtain Satchel of Potions, its random effects and practical leveling value.

Satchel of Potions Requirements and Quest Sources

Both factions can obtain Satchel of Potions through quests that become available at character level 24. The listed quest level is 31, which is different from the minimum acceptance level.

Excavation Site: Wetlands is recommended for characters around levels 26–32, with a level-31 final boss. You can accept the relevant quests at 24, but a properly prepared dungeon group is recommended for completing their objectives.

Neither faction needs to defeat a specific dungeon boss to obtain a random Satchel of Potions drop. The trinket is a quest reward, not part of an ordinary boss loot table.

There is an important distinction between the faction rewards: Horde players must make an equipment choice, whereas Alliance players receive the satchel automatically when completing Heartwoven.

How to Get Satchel of Potions as Horde

Horde characters obtain Satchel of Potions through Changing Tastes, quest ID 95697.

The quest starts and ends with Borstan in Orgrimmar. It sends players into Excavation Site: Wetlands to gather meat from the unusual raptors inhabiting the dungeon.

Where to Find Borstan in Orgrimmar

Borstan is located in The Drag at approximately 57.3, 53.4. He is on the upper floor of the building associated with Borstan's Firepit, near Zamja, the Cooking trainer.

Borstan himself is a Meat Vendor, not the Cooking trainer. The distinction matters because players looking only for the Cooking trainer may speak to Zamja and overlook the NPC offering Changing Tastes.

To find the quest:

  1. Travel to Orgrimmar: Enter The Drag and head toward the Cooking trainer area.
  2. Find Borstan: Look on the upper floor near coordinates 57.3, 53.4.
  3. Accept Changing Tastes: Your character must be at least level 24.
  4. Prepare for the dungeon: Arrange a group for Excavation Site: Wetlands before traveling to the Wetlands.
  5. Keep the quest active: Make sure it appears in your quest log before entering the dungeon.

Changing Tastes has no documented prerequisite chain. You do not need to complete Dragonmaw Rumors or Open the Maw to receive this particular quest. Those are separate Horde objectives associated with the same dungeon.

Where to Find Thicket Raptor Meat

Changing Tastes requires 4 Thicket Raptor Meat. The relevant creatures are found in Stalker's Thicket, the raptor-heavy portion of Excavation Site: Wetlands.

Current dungeon guides identify the following enemies as meat sources:

  • Thicket Hunter: One of the raptors encountered while progressing through Stalker's Thicket.
  • Thicket Lurker: A dangerous raptor associated with the dungeon's dense vegetation.
  • Thicket Stalker: Another eligible raptor in the same general dungeon section.

After defeating Saltspine, the dungeon route leads toward the raptor territory associated with Shadetooth. Clear the available enemies and loot them for Thicket Raptor Meat.

Pay attention to the tall grass in this area. Moving through dense vegetation can trigger additional Thicket Lurkers, so careless movement may turn a straightforward collection quest into a difficult encounter.

Continue until your quest log shows all 4 pieces collected. The meat objective is separate from defeating Shadetooth or collecting boss equipment.

Changing Tastes Rewards and the Important Choice

Return to Borstan after collecting the required meat. The quest reward interface offers a choice between:

  • Satchel of Potions: A reusable trinket with four random effects.
  • Serrated Raptor Claw: A one-handed dagger intended as an equipment reward.

You must choose Satchel of Potions if you want the trinket. The dagger and satchel are alternative rewards, not two items automatically granted together.

The quest also awards Recipe: Twice-Spiced Raptor Slice and 5 Twice-Spiced Raptor Slice food items. These additional rewards are separate from the satchel-versus-dagger choice.

For players interested in collecting unusual trinkets or testing the random effects during leveling, Satchel of Potions is the relevant choice. Characters needing an immediate weapon improvement should compare Serrated Raptor Claw with their currently equipped weapon before making the decision.

No repeatable method for obtaining the unchosen reward from the same completed quest has been established. Check your selection carefully before confirming the turn-in.

How to Get Satchel of Potions as Alliance

Alliance characters obtain Satchel of Potions by completing two connected quests: Lost in the Thicket Things and Heartwoven.

This route involves finding a missing herbalist inside Excavation Site: Wetlands and carrying a personal item back to his wife in Menethil Harbor.

Where to Start Lost in the Thicket Things

Find Caitlin Grassman in Menethil Harbor, Wetlands, at approximately 11.8, 58.6. She offers Lost in the Thicket Things to eligible Alliance characters at level 24 or higher.

Caitlin explains that her husband, Ardin Grassman, went searching for unusual plants after hearing about the excavation site. He has not returned, and she asks you to investigate.

An optional introductory quest, Seeking Caitlin, is available from Llana in Astranaar, Ashenvale, around 35.0, 48.5. It directs players to Caitlin in Menethil Harbor.

Seeking Caitlin is a breadcrumb rather than a mandatory prerequisite. Players who are already in Menethil Harbor can accept Lost in the Thicket Things directly from Caitlin without traveling to Ashenvale first.

Where to Find Ardin Grassman in Excavation Site

Lost in the Thicket Things requires finding Ardin Grassman inside Excavation Site: Wetlands. The objective is to learn what happened to him rather than collect a particular boss drop.

Ardin is located late in the dungeon, near the Site of the Guardian section. Current dungeon walkthroughs place him on an elevated wooden structure near the approach to Relic Guardian.

Follow these steps:

  1. Accept Lost in the Thicket Things: Speak with Caitlin Grassman in Menethil Harbor.
  2. Enter Excavation Site: Wetlands: Join an appropriate group and follow the dungeon's normal route.
  3. Progress through the early sections: Clear the necessary enemies in Lost Marsh and Stalker's Thicket.
  4. Reach the Site of the Guardian: Continue toward the wooden structures near the final dungeon area.
  5. Find Ardin Grassman: Look for him on the elevated platform and interact with him.
  6. Complete the first quest: Speak with Ardin to finish Lost in the Thicket Things.
  7. Accept Heartwoven: Take the follow-up quest before leaving the dungeon.

The crucial step is accepting Heartwoven from Ardin. Finding him completes the search objective, but the satchel is awarded through the return quest, not the initial investigation.

Ardin provides a Reed-woven Heart to bring back to Caitlin. This is the quest item associated with Heartwoven and is not related to the Satchel of Potions' activation mechanic.

Heartwoven Rewards and Satchel of Potions

Return to Caitlin Grassman in Menethil Harbor and complete Heartwoven using the Reed-woven Heart provided by Ardin.

The reward package includes:

  • Satchel of Potions: Automatically awarded as an additional reward.
  • Swiftness Potion: An additional consumable reward.
  • Greater Healing Potion or Mana Potion: Choose between 4 Greater Healing Potions and 4 Mana Potions.

Unlike the Horde quest, Alliance players do not choose between Satchel of Potions and another piece of equipment. The choice is between the healing and mana potion bundles, while the reusable trinket is included separately.

This distinction is particularly useful for characters who want to collect the satchel without sacrificing a possible weapon upgrade.

Once Heartwoven is completed, Satchel of Potions can be equipped and used like another on-use trinket.

How to Reach Excavation Site: Wetlands

Both acquisition routes involve Excavation Site: Wetlands, the new five-player dungeon southeast of Whelgar's Excavation.

The current approach is located in the Wetlands mountain terrain around 47.8, 56.3, with the climbing road and dungeon facilities farther along the route near 53.4, 65.3.

Alliance route: Travel from Menethil Harbor toward Whelgar's Excavation, then follow the new mountain road leading to the dungeon. This is convenient for players who already accepted Lost in the Thicket Things from Caitlin.

Horde route: Travel through Hillsbrad Foothills and Arathi Highlands, cross the Thandol Span into Wetlands, and continue toward the excavation's mountain approach.

The dungeon is recommended for characters around levels 26–32, and its final boss is level 31. Both Satchel-related quest routes begin at level 24. A standard group with a tank, healer and three damage dealers is appropriate for a normal clear.

The complete WoW Forever Excavation Site: Wetlands guide covers the dungeon entrance, boss mechanics, route and available equipment drops. If you are already preparing a run, collect other eligible quests in advance to avoid unnecessary repeat trips.

All Four Satchel of Potions Effects Explained

Satchel of Potions has four possible effects. Activating the trinket triggers one outcome immediately rather than placing a potion item into your bags.

Three effects imitate familiar consumable potion benefits. The fourth inflicts Fire damage on the character using the satchel.

Satchel of Potions effects in the current WoW Forever beta
EffectCurrent valuePractical use or risk
Healing PotionRestores 455–585 healthUseful after taking damage, but cannot be selected deliberately.
Mana PotionRestores 455–585 manaUseful for mana-consuming classes when their mana is depleted.
Swiftness Potion50% increased movement speed for 15 secondsHelpful for travel, questing and movement between encounters.
Unstable potionInflicts 216 Fire damage on the userHarmful outcome that can be dangerous at low health.

These are the four effects identified by the current Satchel of Potions spell record and its linked potion effects. The movement buff is listed at 15 seconds in the available spell information, although one early player report observed 12 seconds in practice.

The effect is random. No reliable public test establishes that all four outcomes occur with exactly equal probability, so a fixed 25% chance per effect should not be treated as confirmed.

Healing Potion: Restores Health

The healing result restores between 455 and 585 health in current beta spell data. It is similar to receiving the effect of a Greater Healing Potion without obtaining or consuming a separate potion item.

This can be helpful after a difficult fight or during a dangerous leveling pull. However, the satchel should not replace a normal emergency healing consumable because there is no way to select the healing outcome.

If your character already has full health, the healing effect provides little or no practical benefit. For that reason, activating the satchel immediately after recovering to full health may waste one of its useful outcomes.

Mana Potion: Restores Mana

The mana result restores between 455 and 585 mana. This can benefit classes that rely on mana for spells, healing or other abilities.

The outcome is more valuable when your mana pool is significantly depleted. Activating it at full mana wastes the potential restoration.

For characters that do not use mana, this is an undesirable result. The satchel's random selection should therefore be considered when evaluating its usefulness for Warriors, Rogues and other characters without a functional mana resource.

The mana outcome is not a replacement for regular drinking during leveling. Its long cooldown and uncertain activation make it unsuitable as a consistent resource-recovery tool.

Swiftness Potion: 50% Movement Speed

The movement result increases movement speed by 50% for 15 seconds according to current spell information.

Among the four possible outcomes, this is particularly useful for leveling characters traveling between objectives before obtaining faster transportation.

Examples include moving between quest locations, crossing open terrain and reducing the time spent running between nearby enemies or objectives.

However, the effect cannot be requested on demand. It is not appropriate to rely on Satchel of Potions for a movement mechanic that requires a guaranteed speed increase.

A normal Swiftness Potion or a reliable class movement ability is more suitable when the player must have increased speed at a specific moment.

Negative Effect: 216 Fire Damage to Yourself

The fourth possible effect deals 216 Fire damage to the character activating the trinket.

Unlike the three beneficial outcomes, this result provides no healing, mana or movement advantage. It is the main reason Satchel of Potions should not be treated as a dependable defensive item.

The listed 216 damage is the spell's recorded value. Actual damage received may depend on the game's applicable damage and resistance rules.

For a low-health character, the result can be particularly dangerous. Using the satchel with very little health remaining creates the possibility of taking lethal damage instead of receiving the healing you wanted.

The item should therefore be activated only when the potential self-damage would not create an unacceptable risk.

Satchel of Potions Cooldown and Usage Rules

Satchel of Potions has a 10-minute cooldown. Its activation is instant, and the current spell record lists no separate cast time.

After receiving one of the four effects, the trinket cannot be activated again until its cooldown expires. The item remains available for future uses rather than disappearing from your inventory.

How to Activate Satchel of Potions

  1. Equip the trinket: Place Satchel of Potions in an available trinket slot.
  2. Check the cooldown: Make sure its activated ability is ready.
  3. Evaluate your health: Avoid using it when the possible Fire damage could kill your character.
  4. Activate the item: Use it from your equipped trinket slot or action bar.
  5. Check the result: Watch for health restoration, mana restoration, a movement-speed buff or incoming Fire damage.
  6. Wait for the cooldown: The next activation becomes available after 10 minutes.

The satchel does not produce an ordinary potion in your bags. Its activated spell directly applies one of the possible results.

That also means players cannot activate the trinket repeatedly to stockpile healing, mana or Swiftness Potions. The item provides a single random effect per successful activation.

Does Satchel of Potions Share a Cooldown with Normal Potions?

The current Satchel of Potions record establishes its own 10-minute cooldown. It does not conclusively document every interaction with the shared cooldown categories used by ordinary consumable potions.

Normal healing and mana potions have their own cooldown restrictions in the Forever client. Since Satchel of Potions triggers potion-like effects rather than consuming ordinary potion items, the interaction should be tested directly before recommending it as an additional independent emergency consumable.

Do not assume that using the satchel always leaves every ordinary potion available, or that it necessarily triggers the exact same cooldown as a normal potion. Neither behavior has been sufficiently verified for this guide.

The safest approach is to treat the satchel's 10-minute timer as confirmed while keeping ordinary potions available for situations requiring a predictable result.

Combat Use, Equipment and Other Limitations

The satchel's instant activation makes it convenient to place on an action bar. However, the current public documentation does not establish a complete list of restrictions for every combat state, equipment swap or encounter type.

The verified limitations are more straightforward:

  • Trinket slot: It occupies one of your equipped trinket positions.
  • Random result: You cannot directly choose the health, mana or speed effect.
  • Long cooldown: Each activation is followed by a 10-minute wait.
  • Self-damage risk: One outcome inflicts Fire damage on your character.
  • No potion generation: Activations apply effects rather than adding consumables to your bags.
  • Bind on pickup: The quest reward is not a normal tradeable item.

No verified class-specific restriction is listed on the item. Nevertheless, the mana outcome can be ineffective for classes without mana, reducing the value of one possible result.

Likewise, there is no dependable evidence that the satchel's random effect distribution changes with class, specialization, current health or mana percentage.

Is Satchel of Potions Good for Leveling?

Satchel of Potions is an interesting leveling trinket, but its value depends on how much the player benefits from occasional utility compared with a reliable passive stat bonus or another activated trinket.

Its biggest advantages are that it does not consume stored potions and can occasionally provide useful health, mana or movement recovery during routine gameplay.

Its biggest disadvantages are the 10-minute cooldown, the possibility of an ineffective result and the risk of taking Fire damage.

Solo Questing and Open-World Travel

The satchel is most reasonable as an optional utility item during routine solo questing.

Activating it between fights, while healthy enough to survive the negative outcome, can occasionally provide a useful result without consuming a purchased potion.

The movement-speed effect is especially appealing before obtaining a mount. However, because the satchel cannot guarantee Swiftness, it should not be built into a timed leveling route as though every use provides a 50% speed increase.

If your character frequently runs low on mana or health, two additional results may be beneficial. For a character without mana, the number of practically useful outcomes is smaller.

Dungeon Leveling and Group Play

During dungeon runs, the trinket has limited but potentially useful applications. A random health or mana restoration can reduce downtime, while the movement-speed effect may help during travel between encounters.

However, the Fire-damage result makes it unsuitable as a dependable defensive cooldown during dangerous boss mechanics. Tanks and healers should prioritize predictable abilities, consumables and equipment when survival matters.

Because each activation is separated by 10 minutes, the satchel may provide only a small number of opportunities during an ordinary dungeon run.

It is better understood as an occasional utility effect than a major source of repeatable healing, mana restoration or group support.

Which Classes Benefit Most?

Classes using mana can potentially benefit from three of the four outcomes: healing, mana restoration and movement speed. The negative Fire-damage effect remains undesirable for everyone.

Characters without mana primarily benefit from the healing and speed outcomes. If the mana result occurs, it provides no meaningful resource recovery.

For all classes, the value of the satchel falls when a competing trinket offers consistent statistics or an activated effect that can be used deliberately.

The item should not be assigned a universal best-in-slot ranking based only on its tooltip. Its usefulness depends on the alternatives available to your character and the kind of content you are completing.

Should Horde Players Choose Satchel or Serrated Raptor Claw?

For Horde characters, the acquisition decision requires more consideration because Satchel of Potions and Serrated Raptor Claw are mutually exclusive quest reward choices.

Choose Satchel of Potions when you want a reusable utility trinket, are interested in its unusual effects or already have a suitable weapon.

Consider Serrated Raptor Claw when its weapon characteristics offer an immediate improvement for your character's current equipment setup.

Because the satchel is not a reliable source of healing or movement speed, it should not automatically take priority over a meaningful weapon upgrade. Compare the items before completing Changing Tastes.

Satchel of Potions Quest and Usage Problems

Most acquisition problems involve an unavailable quest, a missed dungeon follow-up or confusion about the Horde reward selection. Usage questions generally involve the random effect or the trinket's cooldown.

Changing Tastes Is Not Available from Borstan

Make sure your Horde character is at least level 24 and that you are speaking with Borstan rather than Zamja.

Check The Drag in Orgrimmar around 57.3, 53.4, including the upper floor of the building.

If the quest is not displayed, verify whether you have already accepted or completed it. You can check the recorded completion flag with:

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(95697))

A completed quest cannot normally be repeated simply to select the other reward.

Lost in the Thicket Things Is Missing

Visit Caitlin Grassman in Menethil Harbor at 11.8, 58.6 and confirm your character is at least level 24.

Seeking Caitlin from Llana in Ashenvale is an optional breadcrumb. You can normally accept Lost in the Thicket Things directly from Caitlin without completing it.

To check whether the main quest is already completed, use:

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(95647))

If this returns true, inspect your quest log for Heartwoven instead of attempting to accept the first quest again.

Ardin Grassman Does Not Offer Heartwoven

Make sure you have found the correct Ardin Grassman near the Site of the Guardian and completed Lost in the Thicket Things through the appropriate interaction.

Heartwoven is the follow-up that sends you back to Caitlin with a Reed-woven Heart. If you leave without accepting it, you may need to return to Ardin to continue the chain.

Check the quest's completion state with:

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(95809))

This command only reports the quest completion flag. It does not grant the missing quest or restore a quest item.

Satchel of Potions Is Missing After the Quest

Horde players should check whether they selected Serrated Raptor Claw instead. The satchel is an alternative reward from Changing Tastes, not an additional guaranteed item.

Alliance players should confirm they completed Heartwoven rather than stopping after Lost in the Thicket Things. The first quest does not award the satchel by itself.

If the correct quest is completed, search your inventory for Satchel of Potions and check any equipped trinket slots. The item is bind on pickup and is not normally obtained from dungeon boss loot.

The Satchel Gives an Unwanted Effect

This is normal behavior. Its activation randomly selects between four effects, and the player cannot select a preferred result.

Receiving mana while playing a class without mana, restoring health while already healthy or taking Fire damage are all possible outcomes under the current mechanic.

Repeatedly receiving the same result does not establish that the trinket is stuck. No verified sequence or pity system has been documented.

Satchel of Potions Cannot Be Activated

Confirm the item is equipped and that the 10-minute cooldown has finished. Then inspect the error displayed by the client if activation is still unavailable.

Because the available sources do not establish all equipment-switch and combat-state interactions, avoid assuming that every activation failure represents a bug. Record the exact condition and error message before reporting a reproducible issue.

Satchel of Potions FAQ

These answers address the most common questions about obtaining the trinket, its four possible effects and its practical limitations.

How do you get Satchel of Potions in WoW Forever? Horde players select it from Changing Tastes, a quest offered by Borstan in Orgrimmar. Alliance players receive it from Heartwoven after finding Ardin Grassman inside Excavation Site: Wetlands.

Can both Horde and Alliance get Satchel of Potions? Yes. Both factions have documented quest sources, but their objectives and reward selection rules differ.

What level do you need for Satchel of Potions? The associated quests require a minimum character level of 24. They are level-31 dungeon quests, and Excavation Site: Wetlands is recommended for a group around levels 26–32.

Where is the Horde Satchel of Potions quest giver? Borstan is located in The Drag, Orgrimmar, near coordinates 57.3, 53.4. He is a Meat Vendor located near the Cooking trainer.

Where does Alliance start the Satchel of Potions quest? Speak with Caitlin Grassman in Menethil Harbor, Wetlands, at 11.8, 58.6. Complete Lost in the Thicket Things and its follow-up Heartwoven.

What are the four Satchel of Potions effects? The current effects are 455–585 health restoration, 455–585 mana restoration, 50% increased movement speed for 15 seconds and 216 Fire damage to the user.

What is the Satchel of Potions cooldown? The trinket has a 10-minute cooldown between activations.

Does Satchel of Potions give you actual potion items? No. It applies the chosen effect directly rather than creating ordinary consumables in your inventory.

Can Satchel of Potions kill you? The negative outcome inflicts Fire damage on the user. It can be dangerous when your character has insufficient health to survive the resulting damage.

Can you choose which potion effect you get? No. The activation is random, and no reliable method for selecting an individual outcome has been established.

Are all four effects equally likely? No verified public sample establishes equal outcome probabilities. The current spell data identifies four possible effects but does not justify promising a specific percentage for each one.

Is Satchel of Potions a one-time-use item? No. It is a reusable trinket with a 10-minute cooldown, unlike ordinary consumed healing or mana potions.

Does Satchel of Potions share cooldowns with normal potions? Its own 10-minute cooldown is confirmed. The exact interaction with every conventional potion cooldown has not been sufficiently verified in the checked beta sources.

Is Satchel of Potions worth using while leveling? It can provide occasional healing, mana or movement utility without consuming stored potions. Its random results, long cooldown and possible self-damage make it less reliable than dedicated consumables or consistent trinket bonuses.

Conclusion

Satchel of Potions is an unusual reusable trinket available to both factions through Excavation Site: Wetlands quest content. Horde players obtain it by completing Changing Tastes and selecting it over Serrated Raptor Claw. Alliance players complete Lost in the Thicket Things and Heartwoven to receive the satchel alongside additional potion rewards.

Its four possible effects offer health restoration, mana restoration, movement speed or harmful Fire damage, with a 10-minute cooldown between uses. That combination makes the satchel useful as an occasional leveling utility item but unsuitable as a dependable emergency heal or movement cooldown.

Collect the relevant quest before entering the dungeon, check the faction-specific reward conditions and evaluate the satchel against your existing trinkets. The documented quest sources and spell effects are established in current Forever beta records, while exact outcome probabilities and all shared-cooldown interactions still require further verification.
