WoW Forever Warlock Guide: Best Builds, Talents & Pets

Warlock in WoW Forever is a ranged DPS class built around damage-over-time effects, demons, Life Tap, Soul Shards and powerful Shadow and Fire spells. Blizzard's October 7 class deep dive substantially redesigns all three talent trees while also changing core systems such as Banes, Firestones, Spellstones and demon stat scaling.

Updated October 8, 2026: the current beta level cap is 30. A Warlock has 21 class talent points at this level, allowing Affliction to reach its 21-point tier, Demonology to reach Soul Link and Destruction to reach Bane of Havoc. The 31-point capstones Wrack, Demonic Pact and Incinerate remain level-40 progression.

WoW Forever Warlock Talent Trees

Affliction

Affliction focuses on DoTs, drains and sustained resource recovery. Several early talents have been compressed so important mechanics arrive faster.

Improved Corruption now increases Corruption damage in addition to reducing its cast time. Improved Drains increases the effectiveness of Drain Life, Drain Soul and later Wrack.

Curse of Exhaustion becomes the 16-point milestone, providing a 30% movement slow. Malevolence increases Shadow critical-effect chance, while Soul Siphon improves drains based on the number of your other Affliction effects on the target.

The new 31-point capstone is Wrack. It channels Shadow damage for six seconds while increasing damage from your other Shadow DoTs by 10% during the channel. Wrack requires level 40 and is not part of the current level-30 rotation.

Demonology

Demonology now has much clearer milestones centered on sacrificing, replacing and empowering demons.

Demonic Sacrifice is the 11-point milestone. Its two-hour buff depends on which demon is sacrificed:

• Imp: increases Shadow damage.
• Voidwalker: restores Mana over time.
• Succubus / Incubus: increases Fire damage.
• Felhunter: restores Health over time.

Fel Domination is the 16-point milestone and reduces the friction of replacing a demon during dangerous content.

Soul Link is now the 21-point milestone. This makes the iconic defensive pet-sharing mechanic available at the current level-30 cap instead of only in deep endgame builds.

At 31 points, Demonic Pact lets the Warlock retain a Demonic Sacrifice effect while summoning a different demon. This allows Demonic Sacrifice and Master Demonologist bonuses to be combined later in progression.

Destruction

Destruction focuses on direct Shadow and Fire spells rather than long DoT setups.

Ruin has been moved much earlier in the tree, while Aftermath strengthens Immolate's initial hit and allows Conflagrate to Daze its target.

Conflagrate is the 16-point milestone.

Bane of Havoc is the 21-point milestone. It marks one enemy for five minutes and transfers 15% of damage you deal to other enemies to the marked target.

The 31-point capstone is Incinerate, a 2.5-second Fire spell that deals 25% additional damage if Immolate is active.

Best Level 30 Warlock Builds

Affliction Leveling Build

Affliction remains our default leveling path. At level 30, prioritize:

• Improved Corruption
• Improved Drains
• Soul Harvest
• Fel Concentration
• Improved Bane of Agony
• Nightfall
• Malevolence or other damage/support talents depending on route
• Siphon Life / Soul Siphon according to the exact build you want to test

The important concept is not one rigid point sequence. Your leveling loop should improve instant DoT application, drains and Mana recovery rather than chasing level-40 talents early.

Demonology Level 30 Build

Demonology can now reach Soul Link at 21 points. This changes the current-cap build considerably compared with earlier beta guides.

Key progression includes:

• Unholy Power
• Improved Health Funnel
• Demonic Embrace
• Fel Vitality
• Demonic Energies
• Demonic Sacrifice at 11 points
• Master Summoner
• Fel Domination at 16 points
• Demonic Brand / pet-focused talents
• Soul Link at 21 points

For ordinary solo leveling, keeping a useful demon active is often worth more than maintaining a sacrifice buff. Demonic Sacrifice becomes especially interesting later when Demonic Pact allows both systems to coexist.

Destruction Level 30 Build

Destruction can reach both Conflagrate and Bane of Havoc at the current cap.

Build around Bane, Ruin, Aftermath, Agonizing Flames and Conflagrate before reaching Bane of Havoc at 21 points.

This creates the most complete level-30 direct-damage Warlock build: keep Immolate active for Conflagrate while using Bane of Havoc when a second meaningful target is present.

Warlock Pets in WoW Forever

Warlock demons now scale with the summoner's stats, so replacing a weak piece of caster gear can also improve pet performance.

Banes and Curses

Forever separates damaging Banes from utility Curses.

Bane of Agony deals increasing Shadow damage over 24 seconds. Only one Bane from the same Warlock can be active on a target.

This does not stop you from also applying an appropriate Curse. For example, Bane of Agony can coexist with Curse of Weakness or Curse of the Elements.

The Bane system also includes later abilities such as Bane of Doom and Bane of Havoc.

Firestone and Spellstone Weapon Imbues

Firestones and Spellstones have been redesigned as actual weapon imbues.

Firestone increases Fire damage and spell Critical Strike chance. Spellstone increases Shadow damage and spell Haste.

These imbues can coexist with other temporary weapon enchants such as Wizard Oil, creating an additional gearing and build choice instead of replacing those external buffs.

Life Tap and Soul Shards

Life Tap converts Health into Mana and now explicitly scales with Spirit.

This does not automatically make Spirit the best Warlock stat. It simply gives Spirit additional leveling value because each Life Tap can return more Mana.

Drain Soul now has a progressive chance to create a Soul Shard on each tick. When a tick fails to generate one, the chance increases until a Shard is guaranteed.

Use Soul Shards for demon summons, Healthstones, Soulstones and other class utility rather than filling your bags without a purpose.

Warlock Leveling Rotations

Affliction

1. Send the Voidwalker first when you need it to hold threat.
2. Apply Corruption.
3. Apply Bane of Agony when the enemy will survive long enough.
4. Add Siphon Life on durable targets if talented.
5. Use an appropriate utility Curse when useful.
6. Spend Nightfall procs on Shadow Bolt.
7. Use Drain Life when sustain matters.
8. Finish appropriate enemies with Drain Soul for Soul Shards and recovery effects.
9. Use Life Tap when it is safe to exchange Health for Mana.

Demonology

1. Let your selected demon establish the fight.
2. Use DoTs that will live long enough to provide value.
3. Use Searing Pain with Demonic Brand when pet threat needs help.
4. Keep the demon healthy through Health Funnel and passive talent effects.
5. Use Soul Link at level 30 when the build is focused around survivability.

Destruction

1. Apply Immolate.
2. Use Conflagrate for burst.
3. Use Bane of Havoc when a useful secondary target exists.
4. Fill with Shadow Bolt or the most appropriate direct spell available.
5. Use Searing Pain when a fast cast has more value than a longer filler.
6. Use Hellfire carefully for close-range AoE.

Warlock Races in WoW Forever

What are Banes?

Banes are damaging effects separated from utility Curses. Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom no longer compete with your normal Curse slot.

When does Demonology get Soul Link?

Soul Link is now the 21-point Demonology milestone and can be reached at level 30.

When does Destruction get Conflagrate?

Conflagrate is now the 16-point Destruction milestone.

What is Bane of Havoc?

Bane of Havoc is the 21-point Destruction milestone. It transfers 15% of your damage to other enemies onto the marked target.

When does Warlock get Incinerate?

Incinerate is the 31-point Destruction capstone and therefore belongs to level-40 progression.

What is Wrack?

Wrack is Affliction's new 31-point channel. It deals Shadow damage and amplifies your other Shadow DoTs during the channel.

Does Life Tap scale with Spirit?

Yes. Blizzard officially confirms Spirit scaling for Life Tap.

Do Warlock pets scale with player stats?

Yes. Demon stats now scale from the Warlock's own stats.
