Achieve More in World of Warcraft

WoW Timewalking is a rotating Retail Bonus Event that lets characters enter selected dungeons from older expansions while enemies and loot scale to the character's current level. Timewalking is useful for leveling alts, farming Timewarped Badges, collecting mounts and cosmetics, earning expansion-specific reputation, progressing the Great Vault, and completing the weekly Timewalking quest at maximum level.

The best Timewalking route depends on your goal. Leveling characters should combine repeated dungeon queues with the below-cap weekly quest. Collectors should secure the high-value first-run Timewarped Badge quest before grinding normal runs. Maximum-level characters should complete the weekly Timewalking objective and check their Great Vault progress before spending hours farming badges. This guide covers current Timewalking scaling, leveling, Timewarped Badge farming, vendor locations, raid rewards, Turbulent Timeways, and the best rewards to prioritize.

How WoW Timewalking Works in Midnight

Timewalking is a rotating Bonus Event rather than a permanent separate dungeon difficulty. When an expansion's Timewalking week is active, open Group Finder, choose Dungeon Finder, and select the available Timewalking queue. The game sends the group into one of that expansion's supported legacy dungeons. The modern system scales enemies to the player's current level instead of scaling the player down to the historical dungeon level, a change documented in Blizzard's 20th Anniversary content update notes.

WoW Timewalking Level Requirements and Weekly Quest Rewards

Current Retail Timewalking dungeon queues are available from level 10 when the relevant Bonus Event is active. Important reward thresholds still apply: the first-dungeon quest item used for the large Timewarped Badge turn-in requires level 30, while the endgame weekly Timewalking quest is intended for characters at the current level cap. In Midnight, the maximum level is 90.

The table below separates the Timewalking requirements that are often mixed together in older guides.

RequirementWhat it unlocksPractical meaning

Level 10+Timewalking dungeon participationLow-level alts can use Timewalking as part of their leveling route.
Level 30+First-dungeon quest item for the large Timewarped Badge turn-inCharacters below level 30 can queue but do not receive this high-value quest-item reward.
Maximum levelCurrent endgame Timewalking weekly rewardAt level 90, complete the weekly objective and check Great Vault progress before treating the event only as a badge farm.

Do not confuse the event with Chromie Time, which has also been called Timewalking Campaigns in older Blizzard material. Chromie Time lets a leveling character follow a past expansion's campaign. The Timewalking Bonus Event covered here is the rotating dungeon event with Timewarped Badges, vendors, weekly quests, expansion-specific rewards, and selected Timewalking raids.

Timewalking Scaling and Loot in Midnight

Older Timewalking guides often describe the player's character and equipment being reduced to a fixed historical level. That is no longer the current dungeon model. Timewalking now uses Chromie Time-style scaling: enemies scale to your current level instead. Blizzard has also increased enemy and boss health so players have more time to use normal rotations, healing spells, defensive abilities, and other class tools. Better gear can therefore make runs smoother without recreating the old fixed-level scaling system.

Timewalking dungeon drops also scale for modern progression. Blizzard updated Timewalking dungeons to drop Adventurer gear instead of Explorer gear, making repeated runs useful for leveling characters and fresh alts. At maximum level, ordinary dungeon drops should be viewed as catch-up gear rather than the event's main gearing reward, because the weekly quest, Great Vault, and current seasonal activities can offer more valuable progression.

WoW Timewalking Leveling Guide

Timewalking is a strong leveling option because every queue combines dungeon experience, boss kills, completion experience, level-scaled loot, Timewarped Badges, and progress toward the below-cap weekly Timewalking quest. It is especially useful when normal quest travel is slowing an alt down or when you want to learn a new class through repeated group combat.

Is Timewalking Good for Leveling?

Timewalking is most efficient for leveling when queue times are short and your role can move quickly from one dungeon to the next. Tanks and healers often benefit from faster queues, while damage dealers can use queue time for quests, professions, gathering, or other open-world objectives. If a queue is long, continue earning experience in the world instead of waiting in a capital city.

Blizzard's later Timewalking difficulty changes were specifically designed to give leveling players enough time to use their rotations, healing tools, and defensives instead of watching every enemy pack disappear instantly. That makes Timewalking more useful for learning an alt, but it also means an undergeared character should not assume every dungeon will be an effortless speedrun.

If the goal is simply reaching the current level cap rather than farming the event itself, ExpCarry's WoW leveling service covers configurable Retail leveling ranges up to level 90. For self-play, Timewalking works best as one efficient experience source alongside quests and other current leveling bonuses rather than a route that must be used for every level.

Turbulent Timeways XP Buffs for Leveling

Do not apply Turbulent Timeways XP bonuses to every normal Timewalking week. During Turbulent Timeways, completing a Timewalking dungeon grants Knowledge of the Timeways, which increases experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests by 5 percent. Further Timewalking completions strengthen and refresh the effect, and after four applications it becomes Mastery of the Timeways, increasing that experience bonus to 30 percent.

The most recent Turbulent Timeways V ran during summer 2026 and has already ended. Knowledge of the Timeways and Mastery of the Timeways therefore are not active simply because a normal Timewalking week appears on the calendar. If Blizzard schedules another Turbulent Timeways series, it will be one of the best periods to combine dungeon queues with open-world leveling.

How to Farm Timewarped Badges in WoW

Timewarped Badges are the persistent currency used by Timewalking vendors. They remain in your currency collection after the event ends and can be transferred within your Warband, allowing you to consolidate eligible balances instead of leaving badges permanently on the character that earned them. The reliable Timewarped Badge farm combines dungeon bosses, dungeon completions, the first-run quest item, and any expansion-specific raid or event quests that are currently available.

Timewarped Badge Rewards per Dungeon

Current Timewarped Badge values are higher than the numbers still shown in many older guides. Non-final Timewalking dungeon bosses award 10 Timewarped Badges, the final dungeon boss awards 20, and Blizzard later increased the dungeon completion reward to 25 badges. The completion increase is documented in Blizzard's Legacy of Arathor update notes.

This makes the number of required bosses important when estimating a Timewarped Badge farm. A four-boss dungeon with three non-final bosses awards 75 badges from these fixed sources if all four bosses are defeated: 30 from the first three bosses, 20 from the final boss, and 25 for completing the dungeon. Dungeons with a different number of required bosses produce a different total, so there is no single badge amount that accurately describes every Timewalking run.

Badge sourceCurrent valueBest use
Non-final Timewalking dungeon boss10 badgesAutomatic Timewarped Badge income during normal runs.
Final Timewalking dungeon boss20 badgesAutomatic income plus access to the dungeon completion reward.
Timewalking dungeon completion25 badgesRepeatable Timewarped Badge farm while the event is active.
First expansion-specific quest-item turn-in across the Warband500 badgesHighest-priority dungeon badge objective for the event week.
Later eligible character turn-ins200 badges eachEfficient alt bonus after the Warband's first 500-badge turn-in.
Timewalking raid boss20 badges; 50 from the final bossAdditional badge income when a Timewalking raid is available.

The current 500-to-200 Warband structure replaced the older strategy of collecting the full 500-badge reward independently on every alt. The first eligible turn-in across the Warband awards 500 Timewarped Badges, while later eligible characters receive 200 from their corresponding turn-ins. Characters below level 30 can participate in Timewalking dungeons but do not receive this first-dungeon quest-item reward.

Fastest Timewarped Badge Farm with Alts

If you have several eligible characters at level 30 or above, completing one first run on each can be far more efficient than immediately grinding dozens of repeated dungeons on one character. Secure the Warband's first 500-badge turn-in, then decide whether the 200-badge turn-ins on additional alts are worth the extra logins and queues for your current collection goal.

After those one-time turn-ins, repeated dungeons remain an unlimited source of Timewarped Badges while the event is active. Players who want a fixed currency target without building the farm around their own roster can use the verified Timewarped Badges farming service; the article itself assumes manual play and follows the same badge priorities.

WoW Timewalking Weekly Quest and Great Vault Rewards

Maximum-level players should check the Adventure Guide and Great Vault before starting a long Timewarped Badge farm. The regular Timewalking weekly objective normally requires five qualifying Timewalking dungeon completions and awards a current-season gear cache. Turbulent Timeways is a special case: during that event Blizzard can upgrade the weekly Timewalking reward to a higher seasonal cache.

Timewalking Weekly Quest Rewards in Midnight Season 2

The exact cache name, item level, and upgrade track can change with the live season, so an evergreen Timewalking guide should not hard-code rewards from an older raid tier. Midnight Season 2 is currently active, and the Timewalking weekly uses the current seasonal gearing structure. Check the quest reward displayed in the Adventure Guide before starting the five-run objective, especially during Turbulent Timeways because that special event can improve the weekly cache.

Timewalking dungeons also contribute to the Dungeon row of the Great Vault. The current Great Vault unlocks Dungeon choices after 1, 4, and 8 qualifying completions, and Timewalking counts alongside Heroic, Mythic, and Mythic+ dungeons. Timewalking can therefore open Dungeon-row slots, while stronger Mythic+ completions raise the quality of those reward choices. Current Season 2 thresholds and reward levels are maintained separately in ExpCarry's Midnight Season 2 Great Vault guide.

Timewalking Rewards Below Level 90

Characters below the current level cap receive a leveling-oriented Timewalking weekly objective rather than the maximum-level seasonal gear cache. Current expansion-specific Timewalking quests use a five-dungeon objective that awards experience and a level-appropriate reward bag, making the quest worth accepting before you begin repeated dungeon runs.

The efficient sequence is to queue once, collect the first-run quest item if the character is eligible, accept the below-cap weekly quest, and continue until the five-dungeon objective is complete. This stacks leveling experience, dungeon loot, Timewarped Badges, and the weekly reward instead of farming each objective separately.

WoW Timewalking Vendor Locations and Rewards by Expansion

Each expansion has a Timewalking vendor that appears during its rotation. These vendors exchange Timewarped Badges for expansion-themed rewards such as mounts, pets, toys, transmog appearances, reputation tokens, and catch-up gear. Because Timewarped Badges persist between events, you do not have to spend them during the same expansion in which you earned them.

The table below focuses on current Timewalking vendor locations and notable reward categories rather than reproducing hundreds of individual shop entries.

DragonflightXydanBronze Enclave in ValdrakkenDragonflight mounts, Skyriding customizations, transmog, pets, toys, and gear.

Timewalking vendor inventories continue to expand. A reward list copied from a guide written several expansions ago can therefore be incomplete even when the NPC location is still correct. Check the live vendor whenever a Timewalking week returns, especially after Blizzard adds new rewards through a content update or Turbulent Timeways event.

Best Timewarped Badge Rewards to Buy

There is no universal best Timewarped Badge purchase because mount collectors, reputation farmers, leveling characters, and transmog players have different goals. The major advantage is that Timewarped Badges persist and are Warband transferable, so you are not forced to spend them simply because the current Timewalking week is ending.

Best Timewalking Mounts, Pets, Toys, and Transmog

Mounts, pets, toys, and unique transmog appearances are usually the strongest long-term Timewarped Badge purchases because they remain valuable to your collection after your current equipment has been replaced. Many Timewalking mounts cost thousands of badges, so saving through several rotations is normal. If an active vendor offers a mount or appearance you actually want, protect that badge total before spending heavily on temporary gear.

Blizzard also brings selected rewards from previous Turbulent Timeways events into Timewalking vendor inventories. That gives saved badges additional long-term value and is another reason not to reduce your balance to zero on low-impact purchases after every event.

Timewalking Reputation Tokens and Reputation Bonus

Expansion-specific Timewalking vendors sell reputation tokens for many older factions. During the corresponding Timewalking event, players also receive a 50 percent reputation bonus from quests and creature kills for factions associated with that expansion. If an achievement, mount, recipe, or collection reward is locked behind an older reputation, combining the event bonus with vendor tokens can be more valuable than buying temporary catch-up gear.

Check whether the reputation you need is already Warband-wide before spending badges. Modern account-wide reputation systems can make duplicate alt grinds unnecessary, while genuinely character-specific legacy requirements still need their own progress.

When Timewalking Catch-Up Gear Is Worth Buying

Timewalking gear can help a fresh or leveling character replace a weak equipment slot, but it is usually a lower-priority Timewarped Badge sink for an established maximum-level character. The weekly Timewalking reward, Great Vault, current-world activities, raids, Mythic+, Delves, crafting, and other seasonal gearing systems can replace vendor gear quickly.

Spend badges on gear when the upgrade immediately helps you continue leveling or enter another activity. Do not consume a mount-sized badge reserve on temporary equipment simply because the current Timewalking vendor sells it.

WoW Timewalking Raids and Raid Rewards

Several Timewalking expansions include a raid that uses an event-specific NPC or premade-group entry method rather than the normal random dungeon queue. Established Timewalking raid rotations include Black Temple for The Burning Crusade, Ulduar for Wrath of the Lich King, and Firelands for Cataclysm. Classic Timewalking has also used Blackrock Depths, but its availability and access rules have varied between event implementations, so check the live event before planning around it.

Timewalking Raid Badge Rewards and Weekly Quests

Current Timewalking raid bosses award 20 Timewarped Badges, while the final raid boss awards 50. Expansion-specific raid quests can provide additional badges, gear caches, and chances at legacy collectibles. Ulduar's Timewalking quest is a notable example: the Warband's first eligible completion awards 500 badges and later eligible completions award 300, which differs from the 500-to-200 structure used by normal first-dungeon quest-item turn-ins.

Because Timewalking raid availability and quest rewards are expansion-specific, check the active event before building your weekly route around one. If an organized Timewalking raid is the goal rather than ordinary dungeons or badge farming, ExpCarry's current WoW raid category separates raid objectives from dungeon farming.

How to Get the Infinite Timereaver

Reins of the Infinite Timereaver can drop from Timewalking bosses, so the mount belongs to the long-term random-drop category rather than a Timewalking vendor shopping list. There is no guaranteed number of dungeon runs or Timewarped Badges that will obtain it. Timewalking simply gives you repeated chances at the mount while you pursue leveling, weekly quests, badges, or other event rewards.

Turbulent Timeways Guide: XP Buffs, Schedule, and Rewards

Turbulent Timeways is a periodic multi-week Timewalking event with consecutive expansion rotations, the Knowledge and Mastery of the Timeways XP buffs, improved weekly rewards, additional vendor rewards, and a seasonal meta-achievement. It should be treated as a special event layered on top of normal Timewalking rather than the default Timewalking ruleset.

The most recent Turbulent Timeways V has ended. Blizzard scheduled the 2026 event from June 30 through August 11 in North America and from July 1 through August 12 in Europe, with Dragonflight, Battle for Azeroth, Shadowlands, Classic, The Burning Crusade, and Dragonflight rotations. The official 2026 Turbulent Timeways announcement also introduced Xydan as the Dragonflight Timewalking vendor and added new Dragonflight rewards.

Knowledge of the Timeways and Mastery of the Timeways

During Turbulent Timeways, completing a qualifying Timewalking dungeon grants Knowledge of the Timeways, increasing experience gained from monster kills and completed quests by 5 percent. Additional Timewalking completions strengthen and refresh the buff, and after four applications it becomes Mastery of the Timeways for a 30 percent experience bonus. The buff persists through death.

This is why Turbulent Timeways is especially valuable for leveling alts. During a normal standalone Timewalking week, however, do not expect the 5-to-30-percent stacking XP bonus unless Turbulent Timeways is explicitly active.

Turbulent Timeways Mount Rewards

Each Turbulent Timeways series can have a different meta-achievement requirement and mount reward. Turbulent Timeways V in 2026 awarded Spawn of Vyranoth for completing Master of the Turbulent Timeways V, which required maintaining Mastery of the Timeways during four event weeks. That achievement window ended with the event and should not be presented as an active reward from ordinary Timewalking.

Blizzard can later add selected rewards from previous Turbulent Timeways events to normal Timewalking vendors for Timewarped Badges. Always check the current vendor inventory and the newest Blizzard announcement rather than assuming every previous meta reward has a permanent purchase path.

Best WoW Timewalking Weekly Route

The most efficient Timewalking route stacks limited weekly rewards before moving into repeatable dungeon farming. The order below works for most characters because it secures one-time and weekly value first and leaves unlimited Timewarped Badge farming for last.

  1. Check the active Timewalking expansion and vendor. Use the in-game calendar or Adventure Guide to identify the current rotation and decide whether its mounts, transmog, reputation tokens, or other rewards are worth saving for.
  2. Accept the correct weekly Timewalking quest. Maximum-level characters should take the current endgame weekly objective, while leveling characters should pick up the below-cap version when available.
  3. Run the first dungeon on a level-30-or-higher character. Complete the expansion-specific first-run quest-item turn-in and secure the Warband's 500-badge first reward.
  4. Complete the five-dungeon weekly objective. This captures the current seasonal reward at level 90 or the leveling reward below the cap while also earning normal boss and completion badges.
  5. Use eligible alts if you need Timewarped Badges quickly. Later eligible first-run turn-ins can award 200 badges after the Warband's initial 500-badge reward.
  6. Run a Timewalking raid only when its expansion offers one and the rewards fit your goal. Raid quests, legacy drops, and raid boss badges are separate sources of value.
  7. Spend badges only on a clear target. Prioritize mounts, cosmetics, useful reputation tokens, or other permanent collection rewards over temporary gear unless the gear solves an immediate progression problem.
  8. Farm repeated Timewalking dungeons last. Once limited quests and useful alt turn-ins are complete, boss and dungeon-completion badges become the main unlimited currency source.

If Turbulent Timeways returns, move leveling higher in the priority order and maintain Mastery of the Timeways before switching to open-world questing. During a normal Timewalking week, the same route works without the special stacking XP buff.

WoW Timewalking FAQ

These answers cover the most common Timewalking questions about level requirements, Timewarped Badges, vendors, leveling, Great Vault progress, and event rewards.

What level can I start Timewalking in WoW?
Current Retail Timewalking dungeon queues are available from level 10 while the relevant Bonus Event is active. The large first-dungeon Timewarped Badge quest item requires level 30, while the endgame weekly reward is intended for characters at the current maximum level.

How many Timewarped Badges does a Timewalking dungeon give?
Non-final dungeon bosses award 10 Timewarped Badges, the final boss awards 20, and completing the dungeon awards another 25. The total for a full run therefore depends on how many required bosses the dungeon contains.

Do Timewarped Badges disappear after Timewalking ends?
No. Timewarped Badges persist between events, so you can save them for another expansion's Timewalking vendor. The currency can also be transferred within the Warband under the current system.

Where is the Timewalking vendor?
The vendor changes with the active expansion. Classic uses Bobadormu in Stormwind and Grannadormu in Orgrimmar; other examples include Cupri in Shattrath, Auzin in Northrend Dalaran, Mistweaver Xia on the Timeless Isle, Aridormi in Broken Isles Dalaran, Churbro in Boralus or Dazar'alor, Collector Ta'steld in Oribos, and Xydan in Valdrakken.

Is Timewalking good for leveling?
Yes. When queue times are reasonable, Timewalking combines dungeon experience, scaled gear, Timewarped Badges, and weekly quest progress. It becomes substantially stronger during Turbulent Timeways because Knowledge of the Timeways can build into Mastery of the Timeways for a 30 percent experience bonus from monster kills and quests.

Does Timewalking count for the Great Vault?
Yes. Timewalking dungeons can contribute to the Dungeon row of the current Great Vault, which unlocks choices after 1, 4, and 8 qualifying dungeon completions. Higher Mythic+ completions are still required if you want to raise the quality of your Dungeon-row rewards.

Is Spawn of Vyranoth still available from normal Timewalking?
The Turbulent Timeways V achievement that directly awarded Spawn of Vyranoth ended with the 2026 event. It is not a standard reward from ordinary Timewalking. Check future Blizzard announcements and live vendor inventories to see whether Blizzard introduces another acquisition method.

WoW Timewalking in 2026: Final Tips

Timewalking is most valuable when you collect its limited rewards before beginning an unlimited Timewarped Badge grind. Queue from level 10 when the event is active, use level-30-or-higher characters for the first-run badge quest, complete the five-dungeon weekly objective, check Great Vault progress, and only then decide whether repeated dungeons, alt turn-ins, a Timewalking raid, or reputation farming best serves your account. Remember that enemies now scale to your level, dungeon completion awards 25 badges in addition to boss badges, and Timewarped Badges persist between events and can be transferred within the Warband.

For spending, permanent collection rewards usually deserve priority over temporary gear. Check the Timewalking vendor tied to the active expansion, save badges when there is no strong target, and use reputation tokens when they remove a meaningful legacy grind. When Turbulent Timeways returns, treat its XP buffs, upgraded weekly rewards, vendor additions, and meta-achievement as a temporary bonus layer rather than normal Timewalking rules. That keeps Timewalking useful whether your goal is leveling a character to 90, building a large Timewarped Badge reserve, collecting a specific mount, filling Great Vault slots, or maximizing one event week.
