Pre-release note: This guide is based on the current Patch 12.1 PTR and official pre-release information. Requirements, rewards and numerical values may change before launch.
The Great Vault in Midnight Season 2 offers three weekly reward rows: Raid, Dungeons and World. The Raid row is filled by defeating Venomous Abyss bosses, the Dungeons row by completing Heroic, Mythic, Timewalking or Mythic+ dungeons, and the World row by completing Delves and other qualifying world activities. You can unlock up to three choices in each row, but you select only one reward from the entire Great Vault after the weekly reset.
Midnight Season 2 Great Vault at a Glance
| Row | Unlock thresholds | Primary reward source | How reward quality is determined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raid | 2, 4 and 6 bosses | The Venomous Abyss | Highest qualifying raid difficulty for each threshold |
| Dungeons | 1, 4 and 8 completed dungeons | Heroic, Mythic, Timewalking and Mythic+ dungeons | Highest, fourth-highest and eighth-highest Mythic+ keys |
| World | 2, 4 and 8 activities | Delves, Prey, zone events, weekly quests and assignments | Highest qualifying Delve or world-content reward level |
Midnight Season 2 begins one week after Patch 12.1 launches. Blizzard has not announced the Patch 12.1 release date, so the first Season 2 Great Vault opening cannot yet be assigned a final calendar date. The new season introduces the Venomous Abyss raid, the Altar of Fangs Mythic+ dungeon and new Delve rewards.
How the Great Vault Works in Midnight Season 2
Complete qualifying activities during the weekly lockout to add reward choices to the Great Vault. The thresholds do not usually give you separate weekly chests. Instead, each completed threshold adds another item to the pool of rewards presented after the reset.
For example, defeating two raid bosses unlocks one Raid choice. Defeating four bosses unlocks a second choice, and defeating six bosses unlocks a third. You still choose only one item from all available rows when you open the Vault.
The Great Vault is located in the bank area of Silvermoon City. Use the Great Vault interface after the weekly reset to review your choices. Once a reward has been selected, the decision cannot be undone for that character.

Raid Great Vault Rewards from the Venomous Abyss
The Raid row is filled by defeating bosses from the current Season 2 raid, the eight-boss Venomous Abyss. Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic kills count toward the objectives, but the reward quality is based on the difficulty associated with each completed threshold.
Raid thresholds
| Raid activity | Great Vault choice |
|---|---|
| Defeat 2 current-season raid bosses | 1 Raid reward choice |
| Defeat 4 current-season raid bosses | 2 Raid reward choices |
| Defeat 6 current-season raid bosses | 3 Raid reward choices |
The Venomous Abyss bosses are Nek'zali the Soulcoiler, Entombed Sentinels, the Lost Explorers, Vashnik the Malignant, Sszorak, the Twin Fangs, the Coiled Altar and Ula'tek.
How raid difficulty affects the Vault
Each Raid threshold is evaluated separately. If you defeat two bosses on Heroic, the first Raid choice uses Heroic-level loot. If you then defeat four bosses on Normal, your second choice is based on the Normal progression you completed for that threshold.
The practical consequence is that players should complete their highest available difficulty before filling lower-difficulty kills solely for additional choices. Once a threshold has been unlocked, additional kills on a higher difficulty can improve that threshold’s reward.
Boss order also matters when determining the available raid loot pool. If a group defeats a later boss without clearing earlier bosses, the Great Vault can draw from that boss and the bosses preceding it in the raid’s encounter order.
Season 2 raid reward upgrades
Patch 12.1 introduces higher Raid Great Vault reward levels than the corresponding raid difficulty normally suggests. The current Season 2 PTR values are:
| Raid difficulty | Current PTR Great Vault reward |
|---|---|
| Raid Finder | Champion 1/6 |
| Normal | Hero 1/6 |
| Heroic | Myth 1/6 |
| Mythic | Myth 6/6 |
| Very Rare items and loot from the final two bosses | Myth 9/6 equivalent on the current PTR |
The final live item levels and upgrade-track presentation still require confirmation. Treat these values as the current Patch 12.1 PTR reference rather than a guaranteed final table.
Raid Vault choices can include weapons, trinkets, tier pieces and other items from the relevant Venomous Abyss loot pool. As with normal raid loot, a specific item is not guaranteed. The Great Vault provides additional chances and choices, not a deterministic boss drop.
Mythic+ Great Vault Rewards in Season 2
The Dungeons row uses the highest, fourth-highest and eighth-highest Mythic+ keys completed during the week. The order in which you complete the dungeons does not matter. The game sorts your completed keys by level when calculating the three thresholds.
| Dungeon threshold | Reward level is based on |
|---|---|
| 1 completed dungeon | Highest Mythic+ key |
| 4 completed dungeons | Fourth-highest Mythic+ key |
| 8 completed dungeons | Eighth-highest Mythic+ key |
If you complete fewer than four Mythic+ dungeons, only the first Dungeon choice is available. Completing four dungeons unlocks a second choice. Completing eight unlocks the maximum of three Dungeon choices.
Current PTR Mythic+ reward mapping
| Keystone level | End-of-dungeon track | Great Vault track |
|---|---|---|
| +2 to +3 | Champion 2/6 | Hero 1/6 |
| +4 | Champion 3/6 | Hero 2/6 |
| +5 | Champion 4/6 | Hero 2/6 |
| +6 | Hero 1/6 | Hero 3/6 |
| +7 | Hero 1/6 | Hero 4/6 |
| +8 to +9 | Hero 2/6 | Hero 4/6 |
| +10 to +12 | Hero 3/6 | Myth 1/6 |
These track values are based on the current 12.1 PTR and may be adjusted before release. The important rule is stable: the first Dungeon choice uses your highest completed key, the second uses your fourth-highest key, and the third uses your eighth-highest key.
Example: maximizing three Mythic+ choices
Suppose you complete keys at +10, +9, +9, +8, +8, +7, +6 and +5. Your first Vault choice is based on the +10, your second on the +8 that ranks fourth, and your third on the +5 that ranks eighth.
After unlocking all three choices, lower keys cannot reduce your existing reward levels. You can continue completing Mythic+ dungeons to replace the key associated with a threshold, but only a higher qualifying key improves that choice.
Heroic, Mythic 0 and Timewalking dungeons also count toward the Dungeon row. They can help unlock the number of choices, but they generally provide lower reward levels than Mythic+ dungeons.
Delve and World Great Vault Rewards
The World row is the solo-friendly Great Vault category. It is filled by completing Delves and other qualifying world activities, including Prey, zone events, weekly quests and assignments.
| World threshold | Requirement | Choices added |
|---|---|---|
| First | Complete 2 Delves or qualifying world activities | 1 World choice |
| Second | Complete 4 Delves or qualifying world activities | 2 World choices |
| Third | Complete 8 Delves or qualifying world activities | 3 World choices |
World activities generally provide rewards equivalent to lower Delve tiers. Higher-level Delves improve the potential item level of the World row, while ordinary world activities are useful for unlocking additional choices but do not automatically produce the same reward level as a high-tier Delve.
Season 2 Delve content
Season 2 adds the Ring of Glory and Gnarldor Isle as regular Delves. Venomfall Deeps is the Season 2 Nemesis Delve. Bountiful Delves and the new Nemesis content become available with the start of Season 2.
Delves are particularly useful for players who do not raid or run Mythic+. They can create several World-row choices while also advancing Delver’s Journey progression. However, a World-row item remains a random selection from the eligible world-content reward pool and is not guaranteed to occupy a specific slot or be an upgrade.
What Happens If You Do Raid, Mythic+ and Delves?
All three rows contribute to one shared weekly selection screen. Completing activities in multiple categories does not give you multiple pieces of gear. It gives you more possible items to choose from.
A player who completes six raid bosses, eight Mythic+ dungeons and eight Delves or world activities can unlock the maximum number of choices in every row. This produces a large reward pool, but the character still selects one item from the available options.
Mixed-content players should prioritize the activity that offers the most relevant reward pool for their character. Raid choices are useful for tier, weapons and raid-specific trinkets. Mythic+ choices offer dungeon loot and are often valuable for filling targeted slots. World choices provide a solo-accessible alternative and can be especially useful when a character is not yet ready for organized group content.
Thalassian Tokens of Merit and Alternative Rewards
If none of the Great Vault items is useful, you can exchange the alternative currency offered by Vaultkeeper Elysa instead of selecting equipment. The currency is called the Thalassian Token of Merit.
The current Season 2 reward options include upgrade materials, gold and bonus-roll-related items. The PTR also lists packs containing Champion or Hero Dawncrests, as well as a Chest of Gold containing 1,000 gold. Exact costs and the complete vendor inventory should be checked again when Patch 12.1 goes live.
Do not spend Tokens of Merit automatically. A material purchase can be worthwhile when your character has an immediate upgrade bottleneck, while gold may be preferable when none of the listed equipment or progression items has meaningful value. Bonus-roll items are more relevant to characters actively raiding the Venomous Abyss.
Best Weekly Approach for the Season 2 Great Vault
- Complete your highest-value activity first. Run your most difficult raid, Mythic+ key or Delve before spending time on lower-level content.
- Secure the first choice in each row. Two raid bosses, one dungeon and two world activities provide an initial option in all three categories.
- Build additional choices without lowering existing rewards. After a threshold is unlocked, raise the relevant key or difficulty if you want to improve its item level.
- Use the Mythic+ thresholds deliberately. The first, fourth and eighth highest keys determine the three Dungeon choices.
- Finish the Raid row at the highest practical difficulty. Each threshold is evaluated separately, so higher-difficulty kills should be used where they can improve a choice.
- Use Delves and world activities as a reliable fallback. They can fill the World row even when raid or Mythic+ groups are unavailable.
- Inspect every item before choosing. Compare secondary stats, tier progress, weapon or trinket effects and upgrade-track position rather than selecting only by item level.
Common Great Vault Mistakes
- Assuming three completed objectives give three pieces of gear. They give three choices, but only one item can be selected.
- Completing eight low Mythic+ keys before pushing a higher key. The eighth-highest key controls the third choice, so the final threshold can remain at a low reward level.
- Confusing end-of-run loot with Great Vault loot. Mythic+ Vault rewards can be higher than the item dropped at the end of the dungeon.
- Expecting a guaranteed tier item. Tier can appear in eligible Vault pools, but the Great Vault does not guarantee a tier piece.
- Using the wrong row for a targeted item. Raid, Dungeon and World choices draw from different activity pools.
- Spending the alternative currency before checking future needs. Dawncrests, gold and bonus-roll options serve different progression goals.
Season 2 Great Vault Checklist
- Defeat at least two Venomous Abyss bosses for the first Raid choice.
- Complete at least one qualifying dungeon for the first Dungeon choice.
- Complete two Delves or qualifying world activities for the first World choice.
- Use your highest Mythic+ key to set the first Dungeon reward.
- Complete four and eight Mythic+ dungeons if you want all three Dungeon choices.
- Complete six raid bosses for all three Raid choices.
- Run higher-tier Delves when improving the World-row item level matters.
- Visit the Great Vault after the weekly reset and compare every option before selecting a reward.
