WotLK Leatherworking 1-450 Guide
Leatherworking Upgrade in WoW Classic WotLK, ExpCarry Guide
Leatherworking offers the capability to craft leather and mail gear, which are relevant in different phases of WotLK Classic. Besides, leatherworkers can create unique enchantments not available to other professions and items that trigger raid buffs (drums). In this guide, we'll elaborate on how to level up leatherworking in the WoW Wrath of the Lich King expansion, point out the location of the profession trainers, list its features, and more.
General information about the profession
Leatherworking is most suitable for classes wearing leather or mail armor as it enables self-production of gear which is considered decent pre-raid equipment. Moreover, players trained in leatherworking can apply unique enchantments and create buffs beneficial for tackling PvE/PvP content in WotLK.
Leatherworking is advised to pair with skinning, as it allows you to personally gather all the necessary materials for crafting, rather than buying them at the auction. We recommend leveling leatherworking concurrently with skinning, enabling you to level up two professions at the same time. It's also worth noting that a large amount of leather is needed for fast leveling of this craft, and it will be easier for you to farm it than to buy it for gold.
How to learn leatherworking in WoW WotLK – profession levels and trainers
Leatherworking has several tiers of professional development:
Apprentice and Journeyman. Basic leatherworking skills can be learned from any of the profession trainers in the capitals of your faction. When you reach a major city, talk to a city guard and ask him to show you where the trainer you need is located. In the case of leatherworking, choose the dialog options "Profession Trainer" -> "Leatherworking". After that, a marker will appear on the map, indicating the location of the trainer you need.
Artisan. To level up crafting skills above 300, you need to go to a leatherworking trainer in Outland or Northrend. There you can develop your craft up to level 375.
Master. To level up the profession from 375 to 450, head to Northrend and speak with one of the Grand Masters of Leatherworking. Where to find these NPCs, you can see below.
Grand Masters of Leatherworking in Northrend:
Alliance:
Rosemary Bovard – Borean Tundra.
Bernadette Dexter – Howling Fjord.
Horde:
Awan Iceborn – Borean Tundra.
Gunther Hansen – Howling Fjord.
Neutral:
Diana Tanner – Dalaran.

Note: It's not mandatory to raise your leatherworking skill from 350 to 365 using Outland materials. You can gain these profession levels using Northrend materials if they are cheaper. However, if you have an excess of Outland leather or it is significantly cheaper on your server's auction house than WotLK leather, then you can level up to 365 by creating Heavy Knothide Armor Kits before moving to the new expansion areas. An alternative leatherworking leveling option is crafting Glove Reinforcements. It will be more expensive, but you'll be able to sell the crafted items on the auction house to partially offset the costs.

Note for 425-440: You will need to alternate the recommended crafting items depending on the cost of materials and the auction price of the finished products. The recipes for these items will be green until profession level 445, so you can create them non-stop until you reach 445.
Note for 440-450: At this stage, you can make any high-level purple-quality items until you reach 450 in Leatherworking. We recommend crafting purple items on demand to minimize the cost of purchasing materials. Look for clients among friends, guildmates, or in the trade chat channel. You can also offer free crafting for the buyer's materials, thus you will be leveling your profession without spending a single gold coin.
Out of all the purple-quality items that are crafted by leatherworkers, cloaks are most often purchased. Ice Striker's Cloak and Durable Nerubhide Cape are the best options for crafting as they are needed by many players.
Usefulness of Leatherworking Specializations in WoW WotLK
In Wrath of the Lich King, specializations are still available to leatherworkers, but they are no longer relevant. You will not receive any benefits from them in the realities of the current expansion.
