WotLK Tailoring 1-450 Guide
Tailoring Upgrade in WoW Classic WotLK, ExpCarry Guide
Tailoring is a valuable profession for players in various stages of WotLK Classic. Many of the crafted items by tailors are considered "best in slot" for certain classes and specializations. In this guide, we will provide you with information on how to level up your tailoring profession in the WoW Wrath of the Lich King expansion, including the locations of profession trainers, unique features of tailoring, and much more.
Tailoring is an excellent choice for classes that wear cloth armor, as this profession allows you to create powerful gear for yourself. Additionally, tailors have access to unique enchants that are not available to other professions. These factors contribute to the popularity of tailoring in the context of WotLK.
Tailoring is often combined with enchanting. This combination allows you to create gear and then disenchant it into materials for enchanting. This way, you can level up two professions simultaneously. However, if you are not interested in enchanting, you can also choose herbalism or mining as secondary professions alongside tailoring. The choice depends on your preferences, so feel free to choose what suits you best. Tailoring does not rely on other professions.
How to Learn Tailoring in WoW WotLK – Profession Levels and Trainers
Tailoring has several levels of progression:
Apprentice and Journeyman: You can learn the basic skills of crafting cloth armor from any profession trainer located in the capital cities of your faction. When you reach a major city, speak to a city guard and ask them to show you the location of the desired profession trainer. For tailoring, choose the dialogue options "Profession Trainer" -> "Tailoring." This will mark the location of the trainer on your map.
Expert: To level up your crafting skill beyond 300, you need to visit a tailoring trainer in Outland or Northrend. There, you can further develop your expertise up to a skill level of 375.
Artisan: To level up your profession from 375 to 450, travel to Northrend and speak to one of the Grand Master tailoring trainers. The NPCs' locations are listed below.
Grand Master Tailoring Trainers in Northrend:
Alliance:
Darin Goodstitch – Borean Tundra.
Benjamin Clegg – Howling Fjord.
Horde:
Renna – Borean Tundra.
Alexandra McQueen – Howling Fjord.
Neutral:
Charles Worth – Dalaran.

Tailoring Specializations in WoW WotLK - Bonuses and How to Learn Them
Tailoring is one of the few professions in Wrath of the Lich King that still has specializations, although they no longer play a significant role as they did in previous WoW expansions. Nonetheless, all three tailoring specializations are still available to learn:
- Mooncloth Tailoring
- Shadoweave Tailoring
- Spellfire Tailoring
However, they function differently now. You no longer receive unique gear specific to your chosen specialization, but you gain double the amount of special cloth crafted per cooldown.
In WotLK, three new types of cloth are introduced, becoming available at profession level 415:
- Ebonweave
- Spellweave
- Moonshroud
Crafting these materials has a cooldown of almost 4 days, making them quite valuable. Create them whenever the cooldown is up. Regardless of your chosen tailoring specialization, the amount of special cloth crafted increases from 1 to 2 pieces.
To learn any tailoring specialization, you need to reach level 60 and have a minimum profession skill of 350. Then, complete one of the following quests:
- Learning Shadoweave Tailoring – given by Andrau Voidweaver in Shattrath City.
- Learning Spellfire Tailoring – given by Gidge Spellweaver in Shattrath City.
- Learning Mooncloth Tailoring – given by Nasmara Moonsong in Shattrath City.
Once you unlock any of the three specializations, you can freely switch between them without quests or restrictions. To switch to another specialization, speak to the corresponding NPC mentioned above and pay them 150 gold. For example, if you want the shadoweave tailoring specialization, pay 150 gold to Andrau Voidweaver. If you want the mooncloth tailoring specialization, pay the same amount to Nasmara Moonsong.
Bonuses for Tailors in WotLK Classic
The main advantage of choosing tailoring is the ability to create high-level cloth armor and use unique cloak enchantments. These cloak enchants, exclusive to tailors, are not passive and have a chance to activate during combat. If you abandon tailoring, the enchantments on your cloak will no longer function.
The enchantments available to tailors in Wrath of the Lich King are:
- Darkglow Embroidery – restores an average of 33.3 mana.
- Lightweave Embroidery – increases spell power by an average of 74.
- Swordguard Embroidery – increases attack power by an average of 100.
Mounts for Tailors
In addition to enchantments, tailors can create special mounts:
- Flying Carpet – a flying mount with a 150% flight speed.
- Frosty Flying Carpet – a flying mount with a 280% flight speed.
- Magnificent Flying Carpet – a flying mount with a 280% flight speed.
