WoW Forever Scarlet Monastery Guide: Wings, Quests, Loot & Bosses

WoW Forever Scarlet Monastery Guide: Wings, Quests, Loot & Bosses

Scarlet Monastery is a four-wing WoW Forever dungeon complex in northeastern Tirisfal Glades. Unlike most dungeons, it is split into four separate instances with different level ranges, bosses and loot tables: Graveyard, Library, Armory and Cathedral.

The most efficient progression is usually Graveyard first, then Library to obtain The Scarlet Key, followed by Armory and Cathedral. The Library key matters because Armory and Cathedral are locked unless somebody in the party has The Scarlet Key or a Rogue can open the doors with sufficient Lockpicking.

Several important quests also span more than one wing. Horde players working on Into The Scarlet Monastery and Alliance players completing In the Name of the Light need bosses from Library, Armory and Cathedral, making a complete Scarlet Monastery progression run more valuable than treating every wing as an unrelated dungeon.

Pre-launch note: WoW Forever has finished beta testing but has not launched yet. The information below reflects the latest tested Forever data. Graveyard level recommendations currently differ slightly between current databases, so launch tuning may adjust the exact numbers.

For a single trip through multiple wings, a group around level 37–39 can comfortably cover most of the complex. Lower groups should treat the wings as separate progression steps.

Scarlet Monastery Location and Entrance

Scarlet Monastery is in northeastern Tirisfal Glades. Horde players have the easier route from Undercity: leave the city, follow the road east and take the path leading northeast toward the monastery.

Alliance players usually approach from Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills, travel north toward Alterac and then cross toward Tirisfal Glades. This is a substantially longer trip, especially before level 40.

After entering the monastery complex and climbing the main staircase, you reach the central entrance hall.

  • Graveyard — first and easiest wing; no Scarlet Key required.
  • Library — second progression wing; no key required and contains The Scarlet Key.
  • Armory — locked wing; requires The Scarlet Key or sufficient Lockpicking.
  • Cathedral — locked final wing; also requires The Scarlet Key or sufficient Lockpicking.

How to Get The Scarlet Key

The Scarlet Key is obtained from Doan's Strongbox after defeating Arcanist Doan at the end of the Library wing.

  1. Enter Scarlet Monastery: Library.
  2. Clear through Houndmaster Loksey.
  3. Continue to Arcanist Doan.
  4. Kill Doan.
  5. Loot Doan's Strongbox in his chamber.
  6. Take The Scarlet Key.

Only one group member needs to be able to open the locked Armory and Cathedral doors. A Rogue with sufficient Lockpicking can also bypass the key requirement.

First-time route: if your group intends to run the entire complex, do Library before Armory or Cathedral. Farming Graveyard first is optional, but Library is the progression gate.

Scarlet Monastery Quests in WoW Forever

The dungeon complex has faction quests, wing-specific objectives and a Mage class quest. The two biggest quests — Into The Scarlet Monastery and In the Name of the Light — require kills across multiple wings.

  4. Kill Houndmaster Loksey.
  5. Collect Library books and class objectives.
  6. Kill Arcanist Doan.
  7. Loot The Scarlet Key from Doan's Strongbox.

  15. Verify all multi-wing quest boss kills before leaving.

Scarlet Monastery Graveyard

Graveyard is the first and easiest wing. Current data puts practical progression in the high 20s through mid/upper 30s. It does not require The Scarlet Key.

Interrogator Vishas

Vishas is a straightforward melee/caster encounter. Avoid pulling extra Scarlet mobs into the fight and heal through his Immolate damage.

Notable loot:

  • Bloody Brass Knuckles;
  • Torturing Poker;
  • Painwalker Buckler.

Bloodmage Thalnos

Thalnos deals mostly magic damage. Ranged players should stay away from the boss because Flame Spike and Fire Nova punish players close to him. Interrupt Shadow Bolt when possible.

Notable loot:

  • Polished Skullcap;
  • Bloodmage Mantle;
  • Orb of the Forgotten Seer.

Graveyard Rare Bosses

The main graveyard can also spawn three rare elites:

  • Azshir the Sleepless — fear, Soul Siphon and Call of the Grave; drops Necrotic Wand, Ghostshard Talisman and Blighted Leggings.
  • Fallen Champion — Cleave and Berserker Stance; drops Embalmed Shroud, Ebon Vise and Morbid Dawn.
  • Ironspine — Poison Cloud and Curse of Weakness; drops Ironspine's Ribcage, Ironspine's Eye and Ironspine's Fist.

These rares are not guaranteed, so do not promise a specific rare drop from a single run.

Scarlet Monastery Library

Library is the most important progression wing because it contains The Scarlet Key. The current recommended range is approximately 29–39.

Houndmaster Loksey

Loksey starts with three elite Scarlet Tracking Hounds. Crowd-control one if possible and kill the dogs before burning the boss. Loksey becomes more dangerous when he uses Bloodlust.

Notable loot:

  • Dog Whistle;
  • Dog Training Gloves;
  • Loksey's Training Stick;
  • Blueprint: Trapper's Workbench.

Arcanist Doan

Spread ranged players around the outside of the room. When Doan begins Detonation, everyone — including the tank — should move away from him.

His other major abilities include Arcane Explosion, Polymorph and Silence.

Notable loot:

  • Mantle of Doan;
  • Robe of Doan;
  • Illusionary Rod;
  • Hypnotic Blade;
  • Spellsever Crossbow;
  • multiple new Leatherworking patterns.

After killing Doan, do not leave before opening Doan's Strongbox and taking The Scarlet Key.

Scarlet Monastery Armory

Armory is tuned around levels 32–42. It requires The Scarlet Key unless your party has another way to open the door.

Herod

Herod should generally be tanked near the center while ranged players use the stairs and outer edge.

When he calls “Blades of Light!” and begins Whirlwind, move away immediately. Do not attempt to stand inside the Whirlwind and heal through it.

Herod also uses Cleave, Enrage and Rushing Charge.

After Herod dies, a large group of non-elite Scarlet Trainees runs into the room. Stack the group and AoE them down.

Notable loot:

  • Raging Berserker's Helm;
  • Herod's Shoulder;
  • Scarlet Leggings;
  • Ravager.

Scarlet Trainees can also drop the Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade.

Scarlet Monastery Cathedral

Cathedral is the final and hardest wing, currently recommended around levels 35–45.

Clear the entire Cathedral chapel before engaging the main bosses. Pulling Mograine while Scarlet packs remain in the church can cause the remaining mobs to join the fight.

Scarlet Commander Mograine

Mograine behaves like a Paladin and uses Hammer of Justice, Crusader Strike, Lay on Hands, Retribution Aura and Divine Shield.

After his first defeat, High Inquisitor Whitemane begins the next phase.

Notable loot:

  • Aegis of the Scarlet Commander;
  • Mograine's Might;
  • Gauntlets of Divinity;
  • Scarlet Leggings.

High Inquisitor Whitemane

Whitemane uses Holy Smite, Heal and Power Word: Shield. At the scripted transition she puts the group to sleep and casts Scarlet Resurrection on Mograine.

When the group wakes up, the tank should regain Mograine while DPS focus Whitemane. Kill Whitemane first, then finish Mograine.

Do not intentionally bypass the resurrection if your group wants Mograine's loot, because killing Whitemane too early can interfere with normal loot progression.

Notable loot:

  • Whitemane's Chapeau;
  • Hand of Righteousness;
  • Triune Amulet.

High Inquisitor Fairbanks

Fairbanks is an additional encounter hidden in a side room. Interrupt Heal, remove Curse of Blood if possible and be ready for Fear and Sleep effects.

Notable loot:

  • Branded Leather Bracers;
  • Dusty Mail Boots;
  • Inquisitor's Shawl.

Best Scarlet Monastery Quest Rewards

Alliance players completing In the Name of the Light can choose between several excellent weapons:

  • Bonebiter — two-hand axe;
  • Sword of Serenity — one-hand sword;
  • Black Menace — dagger;
  • Orb of Lorica — off-hand.

The quest requires Houndmaster Loksey, Herod, Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane, so it naturally encourages a Library → Armory → Cathedral progression.

Horde players have the equivalent multi-wing objective Into The Scarlet Monastery, also requiring Loksey, Herod, Mograine and Whitemane.

Best Loot by Role

Physical melee: Ravager, Mograine's Might, Hypnotic Blade and several rare Graveyard weapons are major targets.

Caster DPS: Illusionary Rod, Mantle of Doan, Robe of Doan and Whitemane's Chapeau are particularly notable.

Healers: Hand of Righteousness, Triune Amulet, Illusionary Rod and several quest rewards can remain useful for multiple levels.

Tanks: Aegis of the Scarlet Commander and defensive mail pieces from Cathedral are obvious targets.

Hunters: Spellsever Crossbow and relevant mail upgrades from Herod or Cathedral are worth checking.

Professions: Library now includes Blueprint: Trapper's Workbench and several Leatherworking patterns, adding Forever-specific reasons to repeat the wing.

Important Scarlet Monastery Trash

Scarlet casters: use line-of-sight pulls instead of fighting several ranged casters across open rooms.

Runners: Scarlet mobs often flee at low health. Stuns, slows and snares prevent them from pulling additional packs.

Cathedral packs: the chapel has tightly grouped enemies. Clear systematically and do not rush the Mograine pull.

Graveyard undead: Anguished Dead can apply Veil of Shadow, reducing healing received, while Haunting Phantasms can create additional mobs.

Scarlet Monastery Mistakes to Avoid

  • Trying to enter Armory or Cathedral before obtaining The Scarlet Key.
  • Killing Doan and forgetting to loot Doan's Strongbox.
  • Starting the multi-wing quests only after already killing one required boss.
  • Skipping Library quest books before leaving the wing.
  • Standing inside Herod's Whirlwind.
  • Failing to prepare for the Scarlet Trainee wave after Herod.
  • Pulling Mograine before clearing the Cathedral chapel.
  • Trying to keep DPS on Whitemane while ignoring the resurrected Mograine.
  • Expecting a Graveyard rare boss to appear on every run.
  • Leaving Scarlet mobs free to run into nearby packs.

Is Scarlet Monastery Worth Repeating?

Yes. Scarlet Monastery is one of the strongest repeatable dungeon complexes in this level bracket because each wing serves a different purpose.

Graveyard offers rare-spawn farming, Library has the Scarlet Key and profession rewards, Armory has Herod and Ravager, while Cathedral contains the strongest end-of-complex boss gear and finishes the major faction quests.

After obtaining the key, targeted Library, Armory or Cathedral runs become much faster than repeating every wing.
