WoW Forever Starving Arcane Quest Guide

WoW Forever Starving Arcane Quest Guide

Starving Arcane is a City of Dalaran dungeon quest in World of Warcraft: Forever. The current quest requires you to defeat 8 Seeking Remnants, 8 Saturated Remnants and 8 Mana Echoes inside City of Dalaran, then return to the Image of Archmage Modera outside the dungeon.

Current Wowhead and Method data list Starving Arcane as an Alliance quest. Some third-party beta databases still mark it as available to both factions, so this guide follows the currently observed Alliance implementation rather than assuming the older database flag is correct.

Quick answer: go to the Image of Archmage Modera outside City of Dalaran, pick up Starving Arcane, enter the dungeon and kill 8 of each required Arcane creature. Do not skip Remnant or Mana Echo packs. Current beta reports indicate that some runs may not spawn enough of every required mob, so completing the quest can require another dungeon run.

How to Start Starving Arcane

Starving Arcane is picked up from the Image of Archmage Modera outside City of Dalaran near Lordamere Lake.

If Modera does not offer her Dalaran quests, the safe Alliance progression route is to first complete An Alarming Request from Emissary Jacques in Southshore.

An Alarming Request sends you directly to Modera and belongs to the same Alliance City of Dalaran access chain.

Current beta records have changed several level and prerequisite fields during testing. Starving Arcane itself is recorded as requiring level 24, but if the quest does not appear at that level, continue to the current level-30 cap and check the Alliance breadcrumb chain again rather than assuming the quest has been removed.

Where Is Image of Archmage Modera?

Modera's image stands outside the ground-level City of Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains near Lordamere Lake.

This is the Dalaran used by WoW Forever's new dungeon. Do not travel to the later floating versions of Dalaran from other expansions.

If you still need dungeon access, see our Dalaran Sewer Key and Heart of Disruption Guide.

Starving Arcane Objectives

The quest requires three separate kill counters:

EnemyRequiredWhat to Know
Seeking Remnant8Count every pack while clearing the dungeon; do not assume later rooms will contain enough replacements.
Saturated Remnant8Current beta runs can contain an inconsistent number. Defeated Saturated Remnants can leave a mana-restoring area.
Mana Echo8Track the counter during the full clear because reliable fixed spawn coordinates are not yet established.

Best Way to Complete Starving Arcane

Do not treat this as a boss-only quest. The objective is tied to dungeon trash, so a group that rushes directly from boss to boss can easily leave required mobs behind.

  1. Pick up Starving Arcane before entering. Kills before accepting the quest will not retroactively count.
  2. Track all three counters separately. A run can give you enough of one type while leaving another incomplete.
  3. Clear Remnant and Mana Echo packs instead of skipping them.
  4. Check side rooms and normal dungeon paths while doing the complete City of Dalaran run.
  5. Keep the quest if one counter is incomplete. Current beta reports show that another instance run may be required.
  6. Return to Modera outside Dalaran once all three counters reach 8/8.

Can Starving Arcane Be Completed in One Run?

Not reliably in the current beta.

Player reports from the live beta indicate that some City of Dalaran instances do not contain eight of every required enemy type. Saturated Remnants have been the most frequently mentioned shortage, although players also report that the distribution can change between runs.

This means you should not assume that missing mobs are necessarily hidden behind a secret route or boss.

If your dungeon is fully cleared and a counter remains below 8, the practical solution under the current beta build is to keep the quest and complete the remaining kills in another run.

SituationWhat to Do
8/8 Seeking, 5/8 Saturated, 8/8 Mana EchoKeep the quest and target Saturated Remnants on another run.
All bosses dead but counter incompleteCheck uncleared trash areas; if the instance is fully cleared, another run may be required.
Different group reports different mob numbersThis is currently possible in beta; spawn composition has been reported to vary.

Seeking Remnant Locations

Seeking Remnants are City of Dalaran dungeon enemies rather than an outdoor farm target.

There is not yet a reliable set of permanent coordinates that we can recommend across beta builds. Clear the dungeon normally and track every Seeking Remnant pack you encounter.

If you finish the instance below 8/8, do not spend excessive time searching outside the dungeon: the quest explicitly requires kills inside City of Dalaran.

Saturated Remnant Locations

Saturated Remnants are also found inside the dungeon.

They are particularly notable because killing one can leave behind an area that restores mana to players standing inside it. Healers and Mana users should take advantage of this during the run instead of immediately moving away from every defeated Remnant.

They are also currently the most likely Starving Arcane objective to remain incomplete after one clear according to player reports.

Mana Echo Locations

Mana Echoes count toward the third Starving Arcane objective.

The public beta databases still do not provide a sufficiently reliable fixed-location map for us to publish exact coordinates. Track them as part of the normal City of Dalaran trash clear.

City of Dalaran Trash Tips

Starving Arcane makes trash more important than usual, and several Arcane enemies have mechanics worth respecting.

  • Mana Phantoms: prioritize or interrupt Mana Burn where possible.
  • Saturated Remnants: use their post-death mana restoration area when useful.
  • Arcane damage: many enemies in the dungeon currently resist or are immune to Arcane damage, so Arcane-focused characters should have alternatives.
  • Do not over-skip: skipping trash can directly slow Starving Arcane completion.

Starving Arcane Rewards

Completing the quest currently allows you to choose between two item rewards:

RewardSlot / RoleWho Should Consider It
Fallen Guard's PendantNeck, physical-stat rewardPhysical melee characters should compare it with their current necklace.
Arcane Infused RodHeld in Off-hand, Arcane caster rewardMost relevant to characters actually using Arcane spell damage.

Both rewards are currently recorded around item level 36, but their exact beta stats have already changed between database snapshots. Check the live tooltip before choosing rather than relying on an old stat screenshot.

Which Reward Is Better?

Fallen Guard's Pendant is the more broadly usable physical option.

Arcane Infused Rod is much more specialized. Its value depends on whether your class and current build actually benefit from Arcane spell damage and can use an off-hand item.

Do not select the Rod simply because it looks like a caster reward. A Fire, Frost, Shadow or healing build may get little or no value from an Arcane-specific effect.

Kirin Tor Reputation

Starving Arcane currently grants 100 Kirin Tor reputation when completed.

This makes the quest relevant beyond its item reward, especially as players begin working through the new Dalaran reputation content.

For the full reputation path, sources and rewards, we will separate that search intent into a dedicated Kirin Tor Reputation Guide rather than turning this quest article into a general reputation page.

Is Starving Arcane Alliance Only?

Current evidence says yes.

Current Wowhead and Method dungeon data mark Starving Arcane as Alliance. The quest starts and ends at Image of Archmage Modera, and Alliance players reach Modera through the Southshore breadcrumb.

Some third-party client-data databases still show the faction field as both factions. Because the beta is actively changing and these sources conflict, Horde players should not plan around Starving Arcane being available unless the quest actually appears from Modera in their current build.

Horde has its own City of Dalaran quest set, including The Grave Knight, Source of Power and Opportunistic Education.

Starving Arcane Not Showing

Modera Has No Quest

For Alliance, make sure you have completed the Dalaran breadcrumb An Alarming Request from Emissary Jacques in Southshore.

If you are below the current beta cap, leveling further may also matter because prerequisite level data has changed during testing.

You Are Horde

The current live databases and dungeon guides list Starving Arcane as Alliance. Older database flags that showed both factions should not be treated as proof that Horde can currently accept it.

Your Quest Is Missing After Sharing

Blizzard has already fixed several beta issues involving dungeon quests and quest-start items being shared incorrectly. Use the intended faction quest chain instead of relying on quest sharing to bypass prerequisites.

Starving Arcane Turn-In Not Working

There is at least one current beta player report of completing all objectives and then being unable to interact with Modera for the turn-in.

That should be treated as a beta issue rather than an intended quest mechanic. There is not yet a verified universal workaround, so do not abandon a completed quest solely because the NPC temporarily fails to respond.

Beta bugs like this can be changed server-side without a client patch.

How to Check If Starving Arcane Is Complete

If you want to verify whether the game has already flagged quest 92457 as completed, the WoW client supports:

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(92457))

A true result means the quest is already recorded as completed on that character.

Starving Arcane FAQ

Where do I start Starving Arcane?

At the Image of Archmage Modera outside City of Dalaran near Lordamere Lake.

What do I need to kill?

8 Seeking Remnants, 8 Saturated Remnants and 8 Mana Echoes inside City of Dalaran.

Can I complete Starving Arcane in one dungeon run?

Sometimes, but it is not currently reliable. Beta players report that some instances do not spawn enough of every required enemy type.

Why am I missing Saturated Remnants?

Their current dungeon population can vary. If the dungeon is fully cleared and you are still below 8, another run may be necessary.

Is Starving Arcane Alliance only?

Current Wowhead and Method data list it as Alliance. Some beta databases still carry a both-factions flag, so the faction data should continue to be monitored.

What level is Starving Arcane?

The quest is level 33 and current records list a minimum requirement of 24, although related prerequisite data continues to change during beta.

What are the rewards?

You choose between Fallen Guard's Pendant and Arcane Infused Rod and currently receive 100 Kirin Tor reputation.

Where do I turn it in?

Return to Image of Archmage Modera outside Dalaran.

Do bosses count for Starving Arcane?

Can Horde complete Starving Arcane?

It is not currently listed as a Horde quest by the main live dungeon references. Horde should use its faction-specific City of Dalaran quests unless the current client offers Starving Arcane directly.
