WoW Forever Gold Farming Guide: How to Make Gold from 1-60

WoW Forever Gold Farming Guide: How to Make Gold from 1-60

Making gold in World of Warcraft: Forever starts long before level 60. The strongest early strategy is not to stop leveling and grind one famous farm for hours, but to turn normal questing, gathering, professions, dungeon runs and smart Auction House decisions into steady income while protecting the gold you need for major progression costs. Forever launches as a permanent level-60 game with more than 600 new profession recipes, new zones, Scarce gathering materials, new dungeon loot and a different mount-cost model, so old Classic gold routes are useful starting points but cannot be treated as final Forever rankings.

What is the best way to make gold while leveling in WoW Forever?
Gather while you quest, loot every enemy, vendor low-value items intelligently and sell materials other players need for professions. Mining, Herbalism and Skinning are the simplest primary-profession income sources because they produce tradable materials without requiring you to buy crafting inputs first.

How much gold do you need for the first mount?
Blizzard has confirmed that the main gold cost is moved into riding training. In current developer information, the lower riding tier costs 100 gold and the higher tier costs 1,000 gold, with a mount granted when the corresponding riding skill is learned. Current Forever client and database entries for standard mounts still show level 40 and level 60 requirements. Because the beta has not reached those levels yet, treat the level requirements as current pre-launch data rather than final live verification.

What is the best WoW Forever gold farm?
There is no verified single best farm before the live level-60 economy exists. The best method depends on your level, class, professions, ruleset population, regional market, material demand and whether selling raw materials earns more than crafting or farming enemies.

Are gathering professions good for gold?
Yes. Mining, Herbalism and Skinning can turn normal leveling movement and combat into sellable materials. Forever's Legacy perk Bountiful Harvest can also increase the amount of Scarce materials discovered through those three professions.

Can you make gold with the Auction House?
Yes, but Auction House trading is only profitable when an item actually sells for more than your total acquisition and transaction costs. A cheap listing is not automatically a profitable flip, and beta prices should not be used as launch-week market values.

Should you farm gold before level 60?
Usually only when the farm supports your normal progression or you need a specific financial target. Spending several hours on a separate farm can leave you richer but significantly behind in levels, professions and access to better markets.

As of September 22, 2026, WoW Forever is still in beta and the full level-60 economy does not exist yet. The current beta stage is capped at level 20, and Blizzard says the cap will later increase to level 30. The beta runs through October 21 before the November 4 launch. That means early gathering and profession behavior can already be tested, but no responsible guide can provide a verified Forever gold-per-hour ranking for level 40-60 farms yet. This guide therefore separates confirmed Forever systems from launch-planning routes that still need live economic data.

WoW Forever Gold Making at a Glance

Gold comes from several different sources, and they should not be evaluated in the same way. Quest rewards and vendor sales inject new gold directly into the economy, while gathering, crafting and Auction House trading mostly move existing gold between players. A method can therefore create excellent sales without being a strong raw-gold farm, while another may provide dependable vendor income but little demand from other players.

The important rule is that a pre-launch gold-per-hour number would be an estimate from another version of WoW, not a measured Forever result. Once the live economy opens, compare actual sales instead of screenshots of listed items. Unsold inventory is not profit.

How Gold Works in a Fresh WoW Forever Economy

A fresh economy behaves differently from a mature Classic realm. Players build their profession supply chains at the same time, many characters need identical materials at the same skill brackets and nobody initially knows which new Forever recipes will become permanent high-demand crafts. Forever is also realmless: instead of choosing a traditional realm, players choose a Realm Type such as Normal, PvP or Roleplaying, with Hardcore arriving after launch. Each Realm Type operates as its own large ecosystem, so market conditions should be discussed by region and Realm Type rather than by traditional server name. Understanding that early imbalance is more useful than memorizing one old farming location.

Raw materials have an important advantage during this stage. A Blacksmith needs ore before crafting gear, an Alchemist needs herbs before creating consumables and a Leatherworker needs leather before producing armor. Selling the input avoids the risk of investing those materials into a finished item that nobody wants.

The WoW Forever Professions guide covers every profession and the new Camping and Legacy interactions in detail. For gold making, the main question is simpler: does the finished item actually sell for more than the same materials would sell for separately?

Real crafting profit = actual sale price - material value - Auction House cut - unrecovered deposits - other transaction costs.

Materials you gathered yourself are not free. If ten ore can be sold for 5 gold, using them to create an item worth 4 gold still destroys economic value even though no gold left your bags during the craft.

Gold Priorities from Level 1 to 60

The best gold strategy changes as your character gains access to stronger zones, more valuable materials and larger expenses. Early income should support progression rather than replace it. By the time you approach level 60, the priority shifts toward building capital, identifying repeatable markets and preparing for expensive riding and endgame costs.

LevelMain Gold GoalGood Income SourcesWhat to Avoid
1-12Basic training, bags and profession setupQuesting, vendoring, starter gathering, cloth, leatherBuying unnecessary low-level gear
12-25Build liquid gold while professions advanceCopper/Tin, herbs, Light/Medium Leather, Wool, Cooking and Fishing materialsLarge profession purchases with no clear return
25-39Build the first riding reserveIron, mid-level herbs, Heavy Leather, Silk, useful BoEs and recipesSpending the riding fund on temporary upgrades
40-49Recover after the first riding purchaseMithril, Thick Leather, Mageweave, Riverglades materials, crafting demandAssuming every new-zone item is automatically valuable
50-59Start the 1,000g riding reserveThorium, high-level herbs, Rugged Leather, Runecloth, specialist fish and recipesOverpaying for pre-raid items that will be replaced quickly
60Fast riding, professions, consumables and endgame preparationHigh-level gathering, crafting margins, dungeon drops, rare recipes and market tradingCopying old Classic farms without testing Forever demand

The objective is to reach each new stage with enough liquid gold to continue progressing. A character with valuable materials but no money for training, repairs or riding is less flexible than a character that balances inventory value with spendable gold.

Level 1-20: Build Gold Without Stopping Your Leveling Route

The earliest gold is usually earned most efficiently by doing what your character already needs to do. Complete quests, kill required enemies, loot everything and pick up a gathering profession as early as possible. Forever supports early profession progression, making it easier to begin collecting materials before leaving the first zones.

Low-level materials should not be dismissed because their individual prices are small. Thousands of players leveling professions can create demand for Copper Ore, Peacebloom, Light Leather and Linen Cloth.

  • Loot every enemy: grey items and unwanted equipment create vendor income without requiring another player to buy them.
  • Gather on your route: take nearby herbs and ore, but do not cross an entire zone for one node.
  • Skin what you already kill: Skinning adds very little travel time when the quest route contains beasts.
  • Keep useful cloth: First Aid and Tailoring create demand across multiple cloth tiers.
  • Check unfamiliar Forever materials: a new reagent may belong to a recipe you have not discovered yet.
  • Upgrade bags intelligently: additional inventory space can increase farming efficiency, but an overpriced bag can erase several levels of early income.

Skyborne characters begin on Zephras Isle from levels 1-12, while other races follow their normal starting regions. New-zone materials should be checked carefully during beta and launch because the market will initially have little price history.

Level 20-40: Start Saving for the 100 Gold Riding Cost

The first major financial milestone is riding. Blizzard has confirmed a Burning Crusade-style cost structure in which the expensive part is riding training and a mount is granted when the skill is learned. Current developer information puts the lower riding tier at 100 gold. Current Forever client data for standard mounts retains a level 40 requirement, although the beta has not yet reached that level and the requirement should still be treated as pre-launch data. The efficient approach is to build that reserve gradually instead of reaching the expected riding level and suddenly stopping all character progression to farm it.

Gathering During the 20-40 Range

This is where profession materials begin to split into more valuable markets. Iron Ore, Heavy Leather, Silk Cloth and mid-level herbs feed multiple crafting professions and can become leveling bottlenecks when large portions of a Realm Type's population reach the same profession range.

The correct route is not always the route with the rarest node. A loop containing several useful materials can outperform a famous single-resource farm when that farm is overcrowded or requires long detours.

Riverglades and the New Mid-Level Economy

Riverglades is a new Forever zone built around the mid-30s to mid-40s and contains more than 150 quests. That makes it one of the most important areas to watch during the launch economy because a large share of the population within each Realm Type can pass through it while simultaneously leveling characters and professions.

Do not treat a fixed Riverglades gold-per-hour route as established before the zone can be tested at its intended level. Instead, watch for several categories of economic opportunity:

  • new profession reagents;
  • dense humanoid groups dropping cloth;
  • beast-heavy quest areas for Skinning;
  • ore and herb loops that overlap normal quests;
  • new rare enemies and valuable Bind-on-Equip drops;
  • vendor recipes or limited-supply profession items;
  • materials required by new Forever recipes.

A new material can be temporarily valuable because players do not yet understand its use. That knowledge advantage usually shrinks quickly once databases, addons and profession guides map the complete economy.

Level 40-60: Shift from Survival Gold to Market Gold

After the first riding purchase, your character begins accessing higher-value materials and more expensive markets. This is where selling to other players usually becomes more important than raw vendor income, and where profession knowledge starts having a larger effect on profit.

Common high-level materials such as Mithril Ore, Rugged Leather, Runecloth and later Thorium-level materials are useful because they serve profession progression rather than one isolated item.

This is also where a character should begin planning the second riding milestone. Current developer information places the higher riding tier at 1,000 gold. Current Forever client data for standard fast mounts retains a level 60 requirement, but that level has not yet been available for live beta verification.

Do not wait until you reach 60 before beginning that reserve. A player who enters endgame with several hundred gold already saved can make profession, consumable and equipment decisions from a much stronger position.

Best Gathering Professions for Gold

Gathering is the safest gold-making model before the live economy establishes reliable crafting margins. It requires relatively little starting capital, produces materials that many professions need and can usually be combined with normal leveling rather than replacing it. The three primary gathering professions each make money differently.

Mining

Mining supplies Blacksmithing and Engineering and naturally scales from starter ore into valuable high-level metals. A Mining route becomes especially efficient when veins sit along quest roads, caves or mountain edges you are already traveling.

The dedicated WoW Forever Mining guide covers the full 1-300 progression. For gold, the important rule is not to smelt everything automatically. Ore and bars can have different demand, so compare the raw and processed markets before converting large stacks.

At higher levels, materials such as Thorium Ore and Arcane Crystal can serve very different buyers and should be priced independently.

Herbalism

Herbalism primarily feeds Alchemy and also supplies other Forever profession and Camping recipes. Consumable markets can create repeat demand because potions, elixirs, food and similar items disappear when used.

The best herb is not necessarily the highest-level herb. A mid-level reagent used by players raising Alchemy can outperform a rare endgame herb when thousands of characters are stuck at the same profession breakpoint.

Do not automatically process or use valuable herbs. A high-demand herb such as Black Lotus belongs to a very different market from ordinary leveling herbs, and live Forever recipe demand should determine whether selling raw or crafting is better.

Skinning

Skinning has the lowest route friction when your character already kills beasts. You can turn existing combat into leather without changing the quest path, making it particularly useful for a first character focused on reaching 60 quickly.

Standard leather has volume demand, while hides, scales and specialty materials form smaller markets. Devilsaur Leather, for example, should never be priced as if it were simply another stack of generic high-level leather.

Skinning also benefits from Forever's Scarce-material system. The WoW Forever Skinning guide covers Pristine Leather, high-level materials and profession progression in more detail.

Bountiful Harvest and Scarce Materials

Forever's Legacy System can directly change gathering income through Scarce-material output. Current game data gives Bountiful Harvest five ranks and increases the amount of Scarce materials discovered through Mining, Herbalism and Skinning by 20% per rank, reaching 100% more at rank five. The perk therefore changes the expected value of gathering sessions without simply doubling every normal herb, ore or skin.

  • Rank 1: +20% Scarce materials.
  • Rank 2: +40% Scarce materials.
  • Rank 3: +60% Scarce materials.
  • Rank 4: +80% Scarce materials.
  • Rank 5: +100% Scarce materials.

Because characters can spend only a limited number of Legacy Points at launch, a dedicated gathering character gains more from investing heavily in an economic perk than a character that only occasionally picks a node. The WoW Forever Legacy System guide covers the full tree and current point limits.

Cloth Farming Without a Gathering Profession

Cloth is one of the easiest markets to enter because humanoid enemies can drop it without requiring a gathering profession. It feeds Tailoring and First Aid, which means demand can come from both primary and secondary profession progression. The best cloth farm is usually one where kill speed, spawn density and additional loot all remain strong.

ProgressionMain ClothMain BuyersGold Strategy
EarlyLinen ClothTailoring, First AidSell during the first profession rush or keep for your own progression
Low-midWool ClothTailoring, First Aid and recipe usersCheck prices carefully; Wool can become a bottleneck
MidSilk ClothTailoring and First AidFarm dense humanoid areas only when kills remain fast
High-midMageweave ClothTailoring, First Aid and advanced craftsCompare farming with questing income and competition
HighRuneclothTailoring, First Aid and high-level craftingStrong volume market if endgame demand remains high

Wool Cloth deserves special attention because players can pass through its character-level range faster than they finish profession recipes that consume it. Whether this creates a real shortage in Forever will depend on launch population and drop rates rather than historical Classic prices.

Fishing and Cooking for Gold

Fishing does not use a primary profession slot and can supply both Cooking and specialist profession or Camping markets. It is slower to integrate into questing than Skinning because you must stop moving to fish, but it can be farmed without competing for enemy tags, ground nodes or beast spawns.

Specialist fish can be more valuable than normal Cooking catches. Stonescale Eel, seasonal fish and fish used by new Camping objects can serve different markets, so do not judge every catch by vendor price.

The WoW Forever Fishing guide covers pools, rare catches and Fishing Camping, while the WoW Forever Cooking guide covers food buffs and the 1-300 Cooking progression.

For gold making, compare the raw fish price, the cooked-food value and the value of any profession or Camping craft that consumes the same fish. Cooking a material simply because you caught it yourself does not make the finished item profitable.

Crafting for Profit: Sell the Result, Not the Skill Point

Forever adds more than 600 profession recipes and redesigns many older crafts to remain relevant during the 1-60 journey. That creates more possible markets, but it also makes blind mass-crafting dangerous. A recipe can be excellent for leveling the profession while being terrible for earning gold.

Before crafting ten or twenty of an item, test one or two sales first. A profitable-looking recipe can become a loss when many Blacksmiths, Tailors or Leatherworkers in the same market list the same item at the same time.

  • Blacksmithing: weapons, armor and profession utility can create demand, but metal input costs may be high.
  • Alchemy: consumables create repeat demand, although standard Healing Potions are currently crafted through First Aid rather than the normal Alchemy line in Forever.
  • Leatherworking: benefits from a direct Skinning supply chain and can target armor, kits and specialist leather markets.
  • Tailoring: converts cloth into gear and other useful crafts without requiring a matching gathering profession.
  • Engineering: utility can create valuable niche crafts, but some Engineering items mainly serve the Engineer rather than Auction House buyers.
  • Enchanting: creates a choice between vendoring gear, selling the item or destroying it for enchanting materials.

That last decision is particularly important. Before disenchanting a Bind-on-Equip green, compare its vendor value, Auction House value and expected enchanting-material value. The most complicated option is not automatically the most profitable one.

Dungeon Farming and Valuable Drops

Forever changes dungeon itemization and adds nine new dungeons, so old dungeon farms should not be assumed to retain the same value. Dungeons become economically attractive when one run combines several useful goals rather than relying on a single rare drop.

  • dungeon quests;
  • gear upgrades;
  • profession Blueprints;
  • cloth and enemy drops;
  • Bind-on-Equip items;
  • valuable vendor loot;
  • progress toward another dungeon or profession unlock.

Repeatedly farming the same dungeon only makes sense after you measure actual net returns. Repair costs, consumables, travel, reset time, group formation and unsold items all reduce the real gold-per-hour result.

The new dungeons also create Blueprint-driven crafting niches. Blizzard has confirmed that advanced profession Camping objects can require Blueprint recipes earned from specific dungeon bosses. A rare Blueprint can therefore be economically important if it unlocks a desirable craft, but its exact source, drop rate and tradability should be verified before planning a dedicated farm.

New Forever Zones as Gold Farming Opportunities

WoW Forever adds or expands several zones, including Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Shen'dralas and Mount Hyjal. New areas deserve special attention because they combine unfamiliar quests, enemies, gathering layouts, rare mobs and profession materials that players have not optimized for years.

ZoneProgression RoleGold Opportunities to TestStatus
Zephras IsleSkyborne levels 1-12Starter materials, new drops, profession reagentsAvailable in the current beta
RivergladesMid-30s to mid-40sGathering, cloth, beasts, new reagents, raresAbove the announced beta level cap; launch testing needed
Shen'dralasNew leveling area; official level range not yet announcedNew enemies, profession materials, rare dropsNot available in the opening level-20 beta; later beta availability is not confirmed
Mount HyjalLevel 60 / endgame zoneEndgame materials, reputation demand, rare dropsAbove the announced beta level cap; live level-60 data needed

The correct launch approach is scouting rather than assuming. If a new herb, leather, fish, ore or creature drop appears, check what consumes it before selling cheaply. Early knowledge of a new recipe chain can be more valuable than another hour on a traditional farm.

Auction House Gold Making

The Auction House can produce excellent profit without farming enemies, but only if you understand turnover, deposits, Auction House cuts and opportunity cost. Buying something cheaply does not create profit until another player actually purchases it at a higher net price.

Start with Markets You Understand

A Miner has an advantage trading ore because they know which tiers are annoying to gather. A Cook understands which fish disappear quickly. A Tailor knows where cloth bottlenecks occur. Begin with items connected to content you already understand rather than trying to flip every category.

Use Small Test Listings

Do not immediately buy an entire market because one item appears underpriced. Buy or list a small quantity first and see whether it sells. A material with hundreds of cheap competitors can tie up gold for days.

Watch Stack Size

Players leveling professions often want the exact number required for a recipe bracket, while endgame crafters may prefer full stacks. Convenient quantities can sell faster even when the unit price is slightly higher.

Know the Vendor Floor

Always compare the Auction House return with the NPC vendor price. Listing an item below what a vendor will pay creates unnecessary risk and can lose gold after Auction House costs.

Do Not Use Beta Prices as Launch Prices

The beta population, progression cap and temporary economy are fundamentally different from the permanent launch economy. Beta is useful for discovering item sources and profession interactions, not for deciding what a stack of Thorium should cost after November 4.

How to Flip Materials Without Gambling Your Entire Gold Reserve

A simple material flip means buying an item below its likely short-term market value and reselling it after prices recover. The safest targets are usually liquid profession materials that sell repeatedly, not one rare item whose listed price looks impressive but may have almost no buyers.

  1. Choose a material you understand.
  2. Check multiple listings, not only the cheapest stack.
  3. Calculate the maximum price you can pay and still make profit after costs.
  4. Buy a small test quantity.
  5. Relist at a realistic price rather than the highest visible listing.
  6. Track whether it actually sells.
  7. Scale only after repeated successful sales.

Never use your entire riding reserve for a speculative flip. A market opportunity can disappear after one new guide, hotfix or profession discovery changes demand.

Saving 100 Gold for the Level 40 Mount

The first riding milestone should influence your spending well before level 40. Blizzard developers have confirmed a 100-gold price for the lower riding tier and that a mount is granted when the riding skill is learned under Forever's current structure. Current standard-mount entries retain a level 40 requirement, although this has not yet been tested at that level in the live beta. The safest approach is to build the reserve gradually while continuing to level normally.

  • Buy meaningful upgrades: a weapon that dramatically improves kill speed can pay for itself through faster leveling.
  • Avoid cosmetic or convenience spending: those purchases can wait until the riding milestone is secured.
  • Sell surplus profession materials: do not hoard every stack for a crafting plan you may never use.
  • Check quest reward vendor values: when neither reward is useful, take the more valuable one.
  • Prioritize useful training: spend on abilities that materially improve the build you are actually playing.

The goal is not to reach the current level-40 riding milestone with exactly 100 gold and an empty inventory. Ideally, riding is paid without leaving the character unable to repair, train or continue profession progression.

Saving 1,000 Gold for Fast Riding at Level 60

The second riding milestone is much larger and should be treated as a long-term savings target rather than an endgame emergency. Current developer information sets the higher riding tier at 1,000 gold, while current standard fast-mount data retains the level-60 requirement. Because the beta has not reached level 60, that requirement remains pre-launch client data rather than live level-60 verification.

  1. Keep leveling until high-value markets open.
  2. Raise gathering and crafting skills alongside the character.
  3. Sell materials during profession-demand spikes.
  4. Keep profitable high-level recipes rather than vendoring them.
  5. Use dungeons when they provide several forms of value at once.
  6. Test Auction House margins with small amounts of capital.
  7. Preserve a liquid reserve instead of locking everything into speculative inventory.

Fast riding also improves future gold making because reduced travel time means more nodes, enemies, pools and market trips per hour. It is therefore both a major expense and a long-term farming-efficiency upgrade.

What to Vendor and What to Keep

Bag space directly affects gold efficiency. A full inventory forces you to delete items or leave the route, so deciding what deserves a slot is part of farming rather than a separate housekeeping task.

Item TypeDefault ActionException
Grey itemsVendorKeep only if a specific Forever recipe or quest unexpectedly uses it
White profession materialsCheck Auction HouseVendor only when player demand is genuinely absent
Green BoE gearCompare AH, vendor and disenchant valueEquip if it is a meaningful upgrade
Rare recipesCheck market before learning or sellingLearn immediately if it unlocks a craft central to your plan
New Forever reagentsResearch before sellingA low-looking vendor value says nothing about player demand
Scarce materialsPrice separatelyUse personally only when the craft is worth more than the sale value

One of the most common mistakes in a new economy is vendoring an unfamiliar white-quality item because its immediate purpose is unclear. Forever adds hundreds of recipes, so unfamiliar profession reagents deserve a database check before deletion.

Gold and Camping

Camping affects gold indirectly by reducing downtime and expanding profession utility in the open world. Camps can provide vendors, repairs, profession workspaces, food-buff refreshes and profession-specific benefits, allowing a farming route to remain outside a city longer.

The full system is explained in the WoW Forever Camping guide. For farming, the economic benefit comes from time saved rather than gold generated directly by the campsite.

  • less travel to repair;
  • less travel to selected vendors;
  • less downtime refreshing food and profession utility;
  • fewer interruptions caused by missing profession functionality;
  • less time lost regrouping with other players.

Do not spend expensive profession materials on a Camping object purely because you can craft it. Compare the value of its utility with the cost of the materials consumed.

Best Gold-Making Strategy by Playstyle

There is no single gold strategy that fits every WoW Forever character. The best method depends on how quickly you want to reach 60, how much time you enjoy spending on professions, whether you prefer market trading or direct farming and how much starting capital you can risk. Build the income method around the way you already play rather than forcing your character into a farm that slows every other form of progression.

If You Want to Reach 60 Quickly

Use one or two gathering professions, take materials that are directly on the leveling route, skin eligible kills and avoid dedicated farms until a financial milestone actually blocks progress. Selling raw materials is usually simpler than maintaining several crafting markets while racing to 60.

If You Enjoy Professions

Choose a gathering-plus-crafting pair or fund a crafting profession through another character. Track material cost carefully and specialize in recipes players repeatedly consume or replace rather than producing gear with no buyers.

If You Prefer the Auction House

Keep enough liquid gold to survive bad purchases. Focus on high-volume profession materials, learn the normal price range and scale slowly. A small reliable margin repeated many times is safer than betting everything on one rare item.

If You Like Open-World Farming

Combine several income streams. A strong area contains enemies worth killing plus gathering nodes, cloth, leather, useful vendor drops or rare spawns. The more value sources one route includes, the less dependent you become on a single market price.

If You Like Fishing

Target specific Cooking, crafting or Camping demand instead of fishing random water. Specialist fish and seasonal materials can outperform normal catches when their downstream recipes are popular.

A Practical Launch-Week Gold Plan

Launch week rewards preparation, flexibility and speed of information more than one predetermined farm. Prices will move quickly as players discover recipes, profession bottlenecks and new Forever materials, so the goal is to keep several income options open while protecting the gold required for character progression.

  1. Learn gathering early: start producing useful materials before leaving the first zones.
  2. Loot everything: early vendor income matters when the economy contains very little circulating gold.
  3. Sell only after checking demand: do not dump unfamiliar materials simply because nobody has established a price yet.
  4. Keep professions moving: higher skill opens materials and crafts that players entering later brackets will need.
  5. Build the 100g riding fund before the current level-40 milestone: do not wait until the last moment.
  6. Scout Riverglades and other new content at launch: new materials and recipes can create temporary knowledge advantages.
  7. Test crafting margins: craft small batches before committing large material stacks.
  8. Rebuild savings after riding: begin the 1,000g level-60 fund as higher-value markets open.
  9. At 60, measure actual farms: only then should fixed gold-per-hour comparisons become part of your decisions.

A launch plan should change as soon as the market gives you better information. If one material collapses in price or a previously ignored reagent becomes essential to a popular recipe, move capital and farming time instead of following the original route out of habit.

How to Measure Real Gold per Hour

Once Forever launches, calculate gold per hour from realized value rather than the theoretical market value of everything left in your bags. This prevents an inventory full of unsold items from making an average farm look more profitable than it actually is.

Net gold/hour = (gold received from sales + vendor gold + raw quest gold - Auction House cuts - lost deposits - repair costs - consumables - purchased materials) ÷ active farming time.

If a farm produces 100 gold worth of listed materials but only 30 gold actually sells, it did not generate 100 gold in usable income during that session. Track unsold stock separately.

  • route duration;
  • number of nodes or enemies;
  • repair costs;
  • consumable costs;
  • material quantities;
  • actual sale prices;
  • time required for items to sell;
  • competition level.

After several sessions, your own numbers will be more useful than a generic gold-per-hour claim from a different class, faction, region or Realm Type.

When Buying Materials Is Better Than Farming Them

Self-farming is not automatically efficient. If one hour of your strongest activity earns enough gold to buy two hours' worth of a difficult material, purchasing that material can be the better economic decision even when you are capable of gathering it yourself.

This becomes particularly important with crafting professions. A Blacksmith does not need to personally mine every ore, and a Leatherworker does not need to skin every hide if another method generates enough profit to buy those inputs more efficiently.

Players who prefer to reserve their playtime for leveling, professions or endgame preparation can also review the WoW Forever Gold page. However, Blizzard prohibits buying or selling in-game gold for real-world money outside its authorized systems, and such transactions can lead to removal of the gold or account penalties. Before the November 4 launch, any Forever gold availability or pricing is also separate from the permanent live economy.

Gold Farming Mistakes to Avoid

Most gold losses in a fresh economy come from inefficient decisions rather than a complete lack of income. Protecting capital, measuring actual sales and avoiding outdated assumptions can save more gold than adding another farming hour to a weak route.

  • Do not trust pre-launch gold-per-hour numbers: nobody has measured a permanent level-60 Forever economy yet.
  • Do not copy a Vanilla or Classic route without testing it: Forever changes zones, itemization, professions, recipes and rare drops.
  • Do not stop leveling for every valuable node: travel time can cost more than the material earns.
  • Do not treat gathered materials as free: every reagent has an opportunity cost.
  • Do not craft large batches before testing demand: profitable theory can turn into unsold inventory.
  • Do not spend the riding reserve on speculative flips: 100g and 1,000g are major progression targets under the current riding-cost structure.
  • Do not vendor unfamiliar Forever reagents immediately: check whether a new recipe needs them.
  • Do not assume higher-level means more profitable: a profession bottleneck at level 25 can outsell an endgame reagent.
  • Do not use beta Auction House prices as launch forecasts: the population and progression structure are temporary.
  • Do not ignore vendor value: an Auction House listing below vendor value is unnecessary risk.
  • Do not confuse listed value with realized profit: an item that never sells has not paid for your time.
  • Do not ignore bag space: repeated vendor trips can destroy an otherwise efficient route.
  • Do not assume one farm remains best forever: new patches, recipes and player progression continuously change demand.

WoW Forever Gold Farming FAQ

The questions below cover the main practical decisions around making gold while leveling, saving for riding, choosing professions, using the Auction House and deciding when older Classic farms are still worth testing in Forever.

What is the fastest way to make gold in WoW Forever?
Before launch there is no verified fastest method. The safest starting strategy is gathering while leveling, selling useful materials and avoiding unnecessary spending. After launch, compare actual net gold-per-hour within your region and Realm Type.

How much gold does the level 40 mount cost?
Current developer information sets the lower riding tier at 100 gold and states that a mount is granted when the skill is learned. Current standard-mount data retains a level 40 requirement, but the beta has not yet reached that level, so the requirement should still be treated as pre-launch data.

How much gold does fast riding cost at level 60?
The higher riding tier is currently stated at 1,000 gold. Current standard fast-mount data retains a level 60 requirement, but that level has not yet been available for live beta verification.

What is the best profession for gold?
No single profession is guaranteed to produce the most gold. Mining, Herbalism and Skinning are safer early because raw materials are easy to sell, while crafting can outperform them when profitable recipes and strong demand appear.

Is Skinning good for gold?
Skinning is particularly efficient while leveling because it monetizes beasts you were already killing. Leather, hides, scales and Scarce materials create several separate markets.

Is Fishing good for gold?
Fishing can be profitable when targeting Cooking fish, specialist crafting fish, seasonal catches and fish used by Camping objects. Random open-water fishing without a target market is harder to evaluate.

Should I sell raw materials or craft with them?
Compare the finished item's actual net sale value with the Auction House value of every material. Sell raw when crafting does not create enough additional value.

Is Auction House flipping good at launch?
It can be profitable, but launch prices are highly unstable. Start with small quantities and markets you understand rather than using your entire gold reserve on one speculative item.

What should I farm from level 1-20?
Prioritize normal quest income, vendor loot, starter ores and herbs, Light Leather, Linen Cloth and other materials already on your leveling route.

What should I farm around level 40?
Mid-level profession materials, cloth, leather and new Riverglades resources are useful markets to test once that content is available. The exact best farm requires launch-level economic data because the announced beta cap does not reach Riverglades' intended level range.

What should I farm at level 60?
High-level gathering materials, specialist fish, rare recipes, dungeon drops, consumables and profitable crafts are likely candidates, but the correct ranking should be based on live Forever prices and measured routes after launch.

Does Bountiful Harvest increase gold income?
Potentially. Current Legacy data increases the amount of Scarce materials discovered through Mining, Herbalism and Skinning by 20% per rank up to 100% at rank five. Its actual gold value depends on the market price of those Scarce materials.

Are old Classic gold farms still good?
They are useful locations to test, not guaranteed Forever best farms. New zones, profession recipes, itemization and rare drops can change both supply and demand.

Can you reliably calculate Forever gold per hour before launch?
No. A real calculation requires the live economy, spawn rates, competition, actual sale prices and final level-60 access. Any fixed pre-launch number should be treated as an estimate from another game state rather than measured Forever income.

Conclusion

Gold progression in WoW Forever is strongest when it develops alongside the character instead of becoming a separate grind. Early levels reward low-friction income, the middle of the journey adds riding as a major savings target and the final levels open enough profession and material markets for economic decisions to matter as much as raw farming speed.

The launch economy will change quickly as players discover new recipes, zones and bottlenecks. Keeping liquid gold, understanding what actually sells and switching methods when a market weakens will matter more than memorizing one permanent farm. A character that reaches 60 with developed professions, riding savings and several reliable income sources is better prepared for Forever's economy than one built around a single route whose value may disappear within days.
