Illusion: Venomcoil is the Midnight Season 2 PvP weapon illusion, unlocked by reaching 1,950 rated PvP rating and earning Rival II: Midnight Season 2. It is a fixed seasonal rating reward: you do not need Gladiator, Rank 1 or a specific number of wins to obtain the illusion.
If your goal is to reach the required rating rather than only learn how the reward works, compare the available WoW PvP services. The 1,950 milestone can be pursued through eligible rated PvP modes, but each bracket has its own rating and matchmaking progression.

How to Get Illusion: Venomcoil
- Enter an eligible rated PvP mode during Midnight Season 2.
- Build your personal rating in that bracket.
- Reach 1,950 rating.
- Earn Rival II: Midnight Season 2.
- Check your appearance collection for Illusion: Venomcoil.
- Apply Venomcoil as a weapon enchant illusion through the transmogrification system.

What PvP Rating Is Required for Venomcoil?
You need exactly 1,950 rated PvP rating during Midnight Season 2.
This is the current Rival II milestone.
| Rating | PvP Rank | Main Season 2 Reward |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | Combatant I | Elite PvP cloak appearance |
| 1,200 | Combatant II | Elite legs and bracers appearances |
| 1,400 | Challenger I | Elite gloves and boots appearances |
| 1,600 | Challenger II | Elite chest and belt appearances |
| 1,800 | Rival I | Elite shoulders and helm, completing the main class-specific Elite armor appearance |
| 1,950 | Rival II | Illusion: Venomcoil |
| 2,100 | Duelist | Venomous Gladiator's Prestigious Cloak |
| 2,300 | Elite | Venomous Gladiator's Tabard + Elite title |
The important distinction is that the main Elite class armor appearance is already completed at 1,800. Venomcoil then becomes the next major cosmetic milestone at 1,950.

View All Arena ServicesWhich Rated PvP Modes Can Unlock Venomcoil?
Venomcoil belongs to the general rated PvP rank progression rather than to one exclusive bracket.
You can pursue Rival II through an eligible rated mode that awards the standard personal PvP rating ranks, including:
- 2v2 Arena;
- 3v3 Arena;
- Solo Shuffle;
- Rated Battleground Blitz;
- traditional Rated Battlegrounds.
These ratings remain separate. Reaching 1,700 in Solo Shuffle and 1,700 in 2v2 does not combine into 1,950. One bracket itself must reach the Rival II threshold.
2v2 Arena
2v2 is useful if you have one reliable partner and prefer shorter coordinated Arena matches.
If this is the bracket you intend to use for 1,950, see the WoW 2v2 Arena Boost.
3v3 Arena
3v3 offers the full coordinated Arena format and is also the bracket used later for the Gladiator achievement.
For a fixed 3v3 rating target, use the WoW 3v3 Arena Boost.
Solo Shuffle
Solo Shuffle lets you push personal Arena rating without maintaining a permanent team. Your rating is specialization-specific and depends on round results and matchmaking rating.
For a 1,950 Solo Shuffle target, use the WoW Solo Shuffle Boost.
Battleground Blitz
Battleground Blitz is the main rated objective-based alternative to Arena. It uses its own personal rating, MMR and seasonal ladder.
For 1,950 through Blitz, use the WoW Battleground Blitz Boost.
Does Unrated PvP Count for Venomcoil?
No. Normal Battlegrounds, Epic Battlegrounds, Arena Skirmishes, World PvP and other unrated activities do not award Rival II by themselves.
They can still be useful for:
- farming Honor;
- learning a class or specialization;
- testing talents and keybinds;
- building basic PvP equipment;
- practicing battleground objectives.
However, the actual Venomcoil requirement must be completed through eligible rated PvP progression.
Is Venomcoil a Gladiator Reward?
No. Venomcoil is a Rival II reward at 1,950.
Gladiator is a much later and separate Season 2 objective. It requires:
- reaching Elite in rated 3v3;
- winning 50 rated 3v3 games while at Elite.
That route awards the seasonal Gladiator achievement and Venomous Gladiator's Goredrake. None of those requirements are necessary for Venomcoil.
Venomcoil vs Other Midnight Season 2 PvP Rewards
| Reward | Requirement | Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Vicious Lightbloom Boar | Qualifying rated PvP wins at 1,000+ | Progress-based seasonal mount objective |
| Main Elite Armor Appearance | 1,800 Rival I | Class-specific PvP transmog |
| Illusion: Venomcoil | 1,950 Rival II | Season 2 weapon illusion |
| Prestigious Gladiator's Cloak | 2,100 Duelist | 150 rating above Venomcoil |
| Gladiator's Tabard | 2,300 Elite | 350 rating above Venomcoil |
| Venomous Gladiator's Goredrake | Elite + 50 qualifying 3v3 wins | Separate Gladiator achievement |
How to Reach 1,950 PvP Rating
Choose One Primary Bracket
Do not constantly switch between 2v2, 3v3, Solo Shuffle and Blitz if Venomcoil is your only goal.
Each mode has separate rating and MMR, so splitting your games across several ladders slows progress toward one 1,950 threshold.
Choose the mode where you:
- understand the win condition;
- have reliable teammates when required;
- can queue consistently;
- perform well with your current specialization;
- prefer the actual gameplay format.
Finish Your Basic PvP Gear First
Do not attempt a serious Rival II push in outdated leveling or previous-season equipment.
Before climbing, check:
- current PvP item level;
- two compatible PvP trinkets;
- weapon;
- correct secondary stats;
- gems and enchants;
- current PvP talents;
- defensive and offensive keybinds.
For the complete Season 2 gearing route, use the Midnight Season 2 PvP gearing guide.
If the character needs actual Honor, Conquest or specialization-specific PvP equipment, use the WoW PvP Gear Boost.
Understand MMR Before Judging Your Progress
Every win does not provide the same amount of rating.
Your visible rating gains depend partly on the relationship between your current rating, matchmaking rating and the opposition you face.
If your MMR is above your visible rating, CR can catch up quickly. If recent results have pushed MMR below CR, gains may become smaller and losses more significant.
For a complete explanation, see the WoW PvP Rating & MMR guide.
Review Losses Instead of Only Queueing More
Repeated mistakes around Rival rating often cost more progress than one failed burst window.
After a loss, check whether the deciding problem was:
- positioning;
- defensive timing;
- crowd-control overlap;
- missed interrupts;
- wrong target selection;
- poor offensive cooldown timing;
- late battleground rotations;
- unnecessary deaths away from an objective.
Protect Good Sessions
If your decision-making starts deteriorating after repeated losses, continuing indefinitely can erase earlier gains.
Rating progression is more consistent when you play focused sessions and stop when mechanical execution, communication or concentration clearly falls off.
Does Venomcoil Require a Fixed Number of Wins?
No. Venomcoil itself has no fixed win-count requirement.
The direct objective is reaching 1,950 rating.
One player may reach Rival II in far fewer matches than another because progression depends on:
- starting MMR;
- win rate;
- opponent strength;
- rating gains and losses;
- the selected bracket;
- Solo Shuffle round results where applicable.
Any promise such as “exactly 20 wins to Venomcoil” should therefore be treated as an estimate rather than a game requirement.
Can You Get Venomcoil After Midnight Season 2?
Venomcoil is explicitly attached to Rival II: Midnight Season 2.
If the illusion matters to your collection, complete the achievement while Season 2 is active rather than assuming the original rated path will remain obtainable after the season ends.
Blizzard can change the availability of seasonal PvP rewards when a season closes, so the current-season achievement should be treated as the reliable acquisition route.
What Happens After Reaching 1,950?
Once Rival II is awarded, Venomcoil is added as a cosmetic weapon enchant illusion.
If it does not appear immediately:
- allow the achievement notification to complete;
- reopen the appearance collection;
- relog if the interface has not refreshed;
- check the weapon enchant illusion options at a transmogrifier.
Venomcoil does not increase item level, damage, healing or PvP power. It is purely a cosmetic collection reward.
Should You Stop at 1,950?
That depends on the reward you want.
| Goal | Recommended Target |
|---|---|
| Main Elite class armor appearance | 1,800 Rival I |
| Venomcoil weapon illusion | 1,950 Rival II |
| Prestigious PvP cloak | 2,100 Duelist |
| Elite tabard and title | 2,300 Elite |
| Legend | Elite + 100 qualifying Solo Shuffle round wins |
| Strategist | Elite + 25 qualifying Battleground Blitz wins |
| Gladiator mount | Elite + 50 qualifying rated 3v3 wins |
If Venomcoil is the only cosmetic you want, there is no gameplay reward reason to push 2,100 or 2,300 specifically for the illusion.
Common Venomcoil Mistakes
- Stopping at 1,800: the Elite armor appearance is complete, but Venomcoil requires 1,950.
- Pushing 2,100 unnecessarily: the illusion already unlocks at Rival II.
- Thinking Gladiator is required: it is not.
- Playing only unrated PvP: Rival II requires rated progression.
- Splitting progress between multiple brackets: their ratings do not combine.
- Queueing in outdated gear: unnecessary gear disadvantages can slow the climb.
- Expecting fixed rating gains: MMR changes how quickly CR moves.
- Expecting a fixed number of wins: there is no official win count for Rival II.
- Waiting until after Season 2: Venomcoil is tied to the current seasonal achievement.
