Best WoW Midnight Addons for Season 2

The best WoW Midnight addons in Season 2 are very different from the addon stack players used before Midnight. Blizzard did not remove addons, but it fundamentally restricted how addons can read and process live combat information. That change ended several long-standing tools and made Blizzard's own Cooldown Manager, Boss Warnings and other native UI systems much more important.

What Changed with Addons in WoW Midnight?

Midnight introduced Blizzard's Secret Values system. Addons can still customize much of the interface, including frames, nameplates, bars, fonts and the presentation of information Blizzard exposes. What they cannot do as freely is read hidden combat-state information, combine it with custom logic and effectively solve moment-to-moment combat decisions for the player.

This is why modern Midnight addons increasingly fall into four categories:

• reskinning or reorganizing Blizzard's native combat information;
• planning content before combat;
• showing information that Blizzard still exposes;
• analyzing what happened after or during a pull without automating the next decision.

1. Cooldown Manager Centered — Best WeakAuras Replacement for Most Players

The biggest mistake returning players make is searching for a complete WeakAuras replacement. Midnight does not really have one. Blizzard's own Cooldown Manager is now the foundation for personal cooldown, buff and proc tracking.

Cooldown Manager Centered improves that native system rather than attempting to rebuild the old WeakAuras combat model. It can reorganize, resize and restyle cooldown icons, buffs and bars while remaining inside Midnight's intended addon model.

For most players this should be the center of the combat UI.

2. Plater or Platynator — Best Nameplate Addons

Plater remains the best option for players who want deep control over enemy nameplates. It supports extensive profiles, cast-bar styling, priority-target visibility, threat colors and many other display changes. Its current release is already tagged for 12.1.5.

Platynator is the easier alternative. It was designed with the new Midnight environment in mind and provides a visual editor with much less setup overhead.

You normally need one full nameplate addon, not several.

3. BigWigs or DBM — Pick One Boss Mod

Blizzard now has its own Boss Warning UI, but BigWigs and DBM remain useful because many players prefer their presentation, bars, sounds and established encounter workflows.

BigWigs is modular and lightweight, while DBM tends to be more aggressive with explicit warnings. For five-player content, BigWigs users normally pair it with LittleWigs; DBM users should install the current dungeon package.

Do not run both full boss-mod suites unless you have a specific reason. Duplicate timers create noise.

4. Details! Damage Meter — Best Combat Review Tool

WoW now includes more native performance information, but Details! remains valuable for deeper review of:

• damage and healing;
• interrupts and dispels;
• avoidable damage;
• death logs;
• individual pulls and encounters.

The useful question is not “who did the most DPS?” but “why did this pull fail?” Details! is strongest when used as a diagnostic tool.

5. Leatrix Plus — Best General QoL Addon

Leatrix Plus remains one of the easiest recommendations in Midnight because most of its value is outside restricted combat logic. It provides a large collection of small UI and quality-of-life improvements in one lightweight package.

Its current releases already support Patch 12.1.5.

Best WoW Midnight Addons for Mythic+

A modern Midnight Mythic+ UI should focus on route planning, readable enemies, incoming targeted abilities and timer information. Trying to recreate the old era of perfect party-cooldown surveillance is less reliable under the new API.

Mythic Dungeon Tools — Route Planning

MDT remains one of the clearest Mythic+ recommendations. It maps dungeon enemies, enemy-forces values and pull groups before the run begins.

Use it to:

• build and share routes;
• plan enemy-forces breakpoints;
• split large packs into manageable pulls;
• compare alternative paths;
• communicate the tank route before the timer starts.

MDT was updated on October 8, making it one of the freshest major Season 2 addons in this list.

MPlusTimer — Better Keystone Timer

MPlusTimer replaces the basic dungeon timer with a more useful presentation. It can show kill times, previous personal bests and cleaner progress information.

It is not mandatory, but it is one of the best low-noise additions for players who push keys regularly.

TargetedSpells — Know When the Cast Is Going Into You

TargetedSpells highlights abilities targeting you or members of the group. This is particularly useful in large pulls where identifying which unavoidable or lethal cast is actually aimed at you matters more than simply seeing that a cast exists.

For high Mythic+, this is one of the strongest Midnight-native additions to the old addon stack.

BliZzi Party Tools — Interrupt and Party Cooldown Information

BliZzi Party Tools is a Midnight-built party utility that tracks interrupts, defensives, offensive cooldowns and group keystones.

GTFO — Useful Again, but Limited

GTFO initially lost much of its old functionality under Midnight restrictions. Blizzard later loosened part of the aura system, allowing GTFO to restore warnings for mechanics that apply trackable debuffs.

The addon is actively updated and contains Midnight raid and dungeon support, but it still cannot detect every ground effect or environmental hazard. Treat it as a useful extra warning layer, not as a guaranteed detector for everything dangerous.

Best WoW Midnight Raid Addons

Northern Sky Raid Tools — Best Modern Raid Coordination Addon

Northern Sky Raid Tools has become far more important in Midnight. It supports encounter reminders, phase-aware timers, text-to-speech, aura tracking, ready checks, group arrangement and imported assignment strings.

For organized Heroic and Mythic raiding, it covers many of the jobs that raids previously handled through large WeakAura packages.

Its October 5 release makes it one of the most actively maintained major raid tools during Season 2.

Method Raid Tools — Still Useful for Raid Organization

Method Raid Tools is still maintained for Midnight and has a 12.1.5-compatible release. Notes, raid utilities, ready checks and organizational modules remain useful.

You do not necessarily need both MRT and Northern Sky Raid Tools. Raid leaders should choose the combination that matches the group's assignment workflow.

Best Healing Addons for WoW Midnight

Midnight changed the healer addon environment significantly, but custom raid frames are still possible. Blizzard also improved its native frames, so running a third-party healer addon is a preference rather than an absolute requirement.

VuhDo

VuhDo remains actively maintained and supports Midnight. It combines raid frames, click-healing, buff/debuff display and healer-focused customization.

HealBot Continued

HealBot is also actively maintained and already ships a 12.1.5-compatible build. It remains one of the easiest all-in-one healer-frame options.

What About Cell?

Cell was one of the most popular healer-frame addons before Midnight, but its official CurseForge release is not currently a strong 12.1 recommendation. Unless you know exactly which maintained fork or build you are using, VuhDo, HealBot or Blizzard's native raid frames are safer choices for a fresh setup.

Best WoW Midnight PvP Addons

PvP is where the old February version of this guide aged the fastest. Do not install an old Dragonflight/War Within arena pack and assume every tracker still works in Midnight.

sArena Reloaded — Best Arena Frames

The original sArena ecosystem changed, but sArena Reloaded is actively maintained, explicitly Midnight-ready and currently updated for 12.1.

It gives arena players dedicated enemy frames without depending on outdated GladiusEx guides.

FrameSort — Consistent Party and Arena Frame Order

FrameSort can keep player, healer and party frames in consistent positions. This matters for arena keybinds and targeting because your frame order stops changing unpredictably between matches.

It also supports position-based targeting variables and is actively updated for Midnight.

BigDebuffs — Make Important CC Obvious

BigDebuffs enlarges important crowd-control and defensive effects on unit frames. It has a Midnight-era Retail build and is still useful when you want important states to stand out without rebuilding your entire UI.

ArenaDR Nameplates or MidnightDiminish — Current DR Tracking

The old Diminish author explicitly states that the original addon will not be updated for Midnight. Use a Midnight-native DR tool instead.

ArenaDR Nameplates can show diminishing returns on enemy nameplates, target and focus. MidnightDiminish is a simpler alternative focused on target and focus DR icons.

Does WeakAuras Work in WoW Midnight?

Not as the Retail combat addon players knew before Midnight.

The WeakAuras team publicly stated that it did not plan to release a Midnight version because Secret Values prevent the addon from performing much of the custom combat-state logic that defined WeakAuras.

The official Retail CurseForge release never moved into a normal Midnight release line. That means old guides telling you to download class WeakAura packs for Midnight are outdated.

The practical replacement is not one addon:

Does Hekili Work in Midnight?

Do not install Hekili as part of a new Midnight setup. Its official Retail release remains on the pre-Midnight 11.2.5 generation.

Rotation helpers that calculate the next ability from live combat-state information are also exactly the type of functionality Blizzard's Midnight restrictions were designed to limit.

Use Blizzard's Cooldown Manager, proper keybinds and a current class guide instead of expecting an addon to calculate your rotation in real time.

What Happened to OmniCD?

OmniCD was a staple of old Mythic+ setups, but its current Retail CurseForge line has not become a normal Midnight 12.x recommendation. More importantly, Midnight restricts reliable access to other players' spell-state information.

For a new Season 2 UI, use BliZzi Party Tools when you want party cooldown estimates and keep important interrupts and defensives coordinated through actual group communication.

Best Addons for Leveling and Exploring Midnight

HandyNotes: Midnight

This is one of the most useful expansion-specific addons. It adds Midnight rares, treasures, achievements, profession knowledge, collectibles and other points of interest to your maps.

For alts and completionists, it saves far more time than a large collection of generic quest addons.

Leatrix Plus

Use it for general interface and questing quality-of-life improvements.

BetterBags

BetterBags is a modern inventory replacement and successor to AdiBags. It remains actively updated for Midnight.

Best Gathering and Gold Addons

GatherMate2

GatherMate2 records and displays herb, mining, fishing and other resource locations. Its current Retail line supports Midnight and Patch 12.1.

Auctionator

Auctionator is the easiest Auction House recommendation for most players. It improves pricing, shopping and item-value visibility without requiring a complex economy setup.

TradeSkillMaster

TSM is the deeper option for players who craft at scale, maintain pricing operations, flip items or manage large inventories.

Do not install TSM just because it is powerful. For casual selling, Auctionator is considerably easier.

SimulationCraft — Still Worth Installing

The SimulationCraft addon remains useful in Midnight because its purpose is data export rather than live combat automation. Typing /simc generates the character data used by simulation tools for comparing gear.

Use it when deciding between close gear upgrades instead of assuming a higher item level is always better.

Addon Checklist Before Patch 12.1.5

1. Update every combat addon before logging in.
2. Do not blindly enable old pre-Midnight folders.
3. Keep one boss mod, one nameplate addon and one main cooldown UI.
4. Delete duplicate functionality. More trackers do not mean more useful information.
5. Test your UI on a target dummy or low-stakes content before raid.
6. Check party cooldown trackers carefully. Secret Values can make some information estimated rather than exact.
