Gear Progression From Fresh Level 70 to Endgame
A new level 70 character does not need every theoretical BiS item before entering raids. Efficient progression starts by targeting upgrades that unlock the next content tier and provide the largest improvement for the time or gold invested.
- Replace weak leveling items through quests, reputation rewards and Normal dungeons.
- Reach the required reputation and gear level for Heroic dungeons.
- Use crafted items, profession gear and Badge of Justice rewards to fill important gaps.
- Complete Tier 4 and Tier 5 raids for tokens, weapons, trinkets and catch-up upgrades.
- Move into Tier 6 with the required stat caps, consumables and encounter-specific gear.
The best route depends on your class, role and available content. A tank may need Defense and resistance pieces before pursuing maximum threat, while a caster may gain more from reaching Spell Hit cap than from equipping an item with a higher item level.
How TBC BiS Lists Should Be Used
A Best in Slot list shows the strongest theoretical setup for a specific specialization and phase, but it should not be treated as the only valid gearing path. Many raid items have low drop rates, strong competition or weekly lockout restrictions. A practical BiS guide must therefore include accessible alternatives from professions, reputations, dungeons, badges and earlier raid tiers.
Before replacing an item, check how the change affects your total stats. An upgrade can reduce your performance if it causes you to fall below an important Hit, Expertise or Defense threshold. Use the complete gear set rather than evaluating every item independently.
Phase-Specific Gear and Tier Sets
TBC Anniversary gear priorities change as new raid phases open. Crafted items that are dominant early in the expansion may later be replaced by Tier tokens, weapons, trinkets and raid-specific drops. The guides in this category identify which older items remain valuable and which upgrades should receive priority in the current phase.
Tier set bonuses are also evaluated by specialization. Some classes should complete a two-piece or four-piece bonus as soon as possible, while others may perform better by combining selected Tier pieces with stronger off-set items.
