WoW Midnight Season 2 starts on August 18, 2026 in North America and August 19 in Europe, opening The Venomous Abyss raid, Mythic+, Bountiful Delves, Nightmare Prey, rated PvP and the full Season 2 gearing cycle. The most efficient weekly routine is not to complete every available activity: prioritize the content that improves your Great Vault, tier set, highest-value gear slots and seasonal progression.
This Midnight Season 2 weekly checklist covers the optimal order for raid, Mythic+, Delves, Great Vault, Catalyst, Prey, Coffer Keys, crafting and seasonal currencies. For a complete item-level comparison between all gearing sources, use our Midnight Season 2 gearing guide.

Midnight Season 2 Launch Schedule
Season 2 has a separate pre-season and full-season launch. This matters because the first Great Vault, Bountiful Delves, Mythic+ and several rewards do not all activate during the same reset.
| North America | Europe | What Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| August 11 | August 12 | Patch 12.1 pre-season, Coiled Isle, Season 2 dungeon pool on Heroic/Mythic 0, standard Delves, Hard Prey and outdoor content |
| August 18 | August 19 | Season 2, The Venomous Abyss Normal/Heroic/Mythic, Raid Finder Wing 1, Mythic+, Bountiful Delves, Coffer Keys, Nightmare Prey and rated PvP |
| August 25 | August 26 | Raid Finder Wing 2, Story Mode and access to Nebulous Voidcore through the weekly Vault for eligible characters |
| September 1 | September 2 | Raid Finder Wing 3 |
Important First Great Vault Rule
Season 2 Great Vault credit already started accumulating during the pre-season week. The resulting first Season 2 Vault becomes available on the August 18/19 reset.
- The first Season 2 Vault cannot offer a Nebulous Voidcore.
- The World row of the first Vault is capped at Champion 3/6.
- Later World Vaults can reach Hero 1/6.
- Voidcore becomes available from the following weekly reset if you have unlocked at least three Vault choices.
This is a launch-specific restriction. It should not be treated as the normal reward structure for the rest of Season 2.

Step 1: Check the Great Vault Before Spending Anything
Do not log in after reset and immediately spend Catalyst charges, crafting materials or upgrade currencies. First inspect your Great Vault and identify which slots can potentially change your gearing plan.
The Midnight Great Vault has three activity rows:
| Great Vault Row | First Choice | Second Choice | Third Choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raid | Defeat 2 bosses | Defeat 4 bosses | Defeat 6 bosses |
| Dungeons | Complete 1 dungeon | Complete 4 dungeons | Complete 8 dungeons |
| World | Complete 2 activities | Complete 4 activities | Complete 8 activities |
You still select only one final reward. Additional objectives increase your number of choices, not the number of items you can take.
Any unlocked Vault slot can also contain a tier-set piece. This makes even Dungeon and World rows relevant when you are missing a two-piece or four-piece bonus.
Step 2: Complete The Venomous Abyss Raid
The Venomous Abyss is the primary Season 2 raid and one of the strongest weekly sources of class-set pieces, weapons, trinkets and high-end gear.
For encounter mechanics and progression order, use our complete Venomous Abyss raid guide. If you are targeting a specific weapon, trinket or tier source, check the Venomous Abyss loot table before choosing which difficulty and bosses to prioritize.
Raid Great Vault Targets
| Bosses Defeated | Vault Choices | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 Raid choice | Efficient minimum for alts or limited-time characters |
| 4 | 2 Raid choices | Strong value-to-time target |
| 6 | 3 Raid choices | Maximum Raid-row flexibility |
Difficulty matters substantially because Season 2 Raid Vault rewards are stronger than the direct drops from the corresponding difficulty.
| Completed Difficulty | Typical Great Vault Reward |
|---|---|
| Raid Finder | 292 — Champion 1/6 |
| Normal | 305 — Hero 1/6 |
| Heroic | 318 — Myth 1/6 |
| Mythic | 335 — Myth 6/6 |
Very Rare Mythic items and eligible rewards from the final two bosses can reach the equivalent of Myth 9 item level 344.
The Tidebound Grotto Lair also contributes to the Raid section of the Great Vault, so it can be useful when you need another qualifying raid encounter without extending a full raid clear.
If your objective is a defined clear rather than progression with a permanent group, you can compare full clears, individual bosses and difficulty options in the Venomous Abyss Raid services.
Step 3: Fill Your Mythic+ Great Vault Slots
Mythic+ remains the most flexible repeatable gearing source in Midnight Season 2. Your Dungeon Vault rewards are determined by your highest, fourth-highest and eighth-highest completed dungeons.
This means one very high key does not automatically give three equally strong Vault options.
| Weekly M+ Completions | Vault Result |
|---|---|
| 1 | One choice based on your highest completed dungeon |
| 4 | Second choice based on your fourth-highest completed dungeon |
| 8 | Third choice based on your eighth-highest completed dungeon |
Best Mythic+ Key Levels for Weekly Gearing
| Key | End-of-Dungeon Gear | Great Vault | Why Run It |
|---|---|---|---|
| +6 | 305 Hero 1/6 | 311 Hero 3/6 | Efficient Hero-track entry point |
| +8 | 308 Hero 2/6 | 315 Hero 4/6 | Strong direct gear farming |
| +9 | 308 Hero 2/6 | 315 Hero 4/6 | Myth Mistcrests begin |
| +10 | 311 Hero 3/6 | 318 Myth 1/6 | Maximum regular M+ Vault item level and dungeon portal breakpoint |
If gearing is the only objective, +10 is the key weekly breakpoint. Completing four or eight +10 keys gives two or three Myth 1/6 Dungeon Vault choices respectively.
Keys above +10 remain valuable for Mythic+ rating, Keystone achievements, Resilient Keystone progression and competitive pushing, but they do not continue increasing the standard Great Vault item level.
Use our Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ loot table for every key level, Mistcrest tier and Vault breakpoint. If you need a specific dungeon, key level or weekly completion, see the WoW Mythic+ services.
Step 4: Complete 2, 4 or 8 High-Value World Activities
The third Great Vault row is no longer exclusively about Delves. Midnight combines Delves and World activities into the World row.
Qualifying activities include:
- Delves;
- Prey Hunts;
- zone events;
- weekly quests;
- assignments.
However, not every qualifying activity produces the same Vault quality. Basic outdoor objectives count toward the number of completed activities but are equivalent to low-level content. Higher Delves and harder Prey Hunts are more valuable when the objective is a stronger Vault item.
Best practice: complete the highest-value activities you intend to do before filling the row with easy low-level objectives, and check each Vault tooltip to confirm the expected reward.
Step 5: Prioritize Bountiful Delves and Restored Coffer Keys
Bountiful Delves become available with the full Season 2 launch. They are one of the most efficient solo or small-group activities because the same runs can contribute to gear, the World Great Vault row and the seasonal Delver's Journey.
Season 2 adds three major Delve locations on the Coiled Isle:
- The Ring of Glory;
- Gnarldor Isle;
- Venomfall Deeps — the Season 2 Nemesis Delve containing Azta'rec.
For exact rewards by difficulty, use our Midnight Season 2 Delve loot table.
Restored Coffer Key Rule
A Bountiful Delve can be completed without a key, but opening its additional Bountiful Coffer requires one Restored Coffer Key.
Midnight primarily awards Coffer Key Shards. The normal weekly shard cap is 600, enough to create up to six Restored Coffer Keys from shards.
Do not waste keys on a low Delve tier merely because a Bountiful Delve is available. If character power is your goal, save them for the highest reward tier you can clear consistently.
First-Week Azta'rec Objective
Season 2 also has a unique first-week Delve objective. Players who defeat Azta'rec on Tier ?? solo during the first week of Season 2 can earn the limited Feat of Strength and the Fabled Vanquisher of Azta'rec title.
This objective has much higher urgency than normal seasonal achievements because the Fabled version is tied specifically to the opening week.
For the complete seasonal progression track, Nemesis rewards and Prey connection, use our Season 2 Delver's Journey and Prey guide. Players who prefer organized high-tier runs can also use the Midnight Delves services.
Step 6: Complete the Valuable Prey Hunts
Season 2 expands Prey with new targets, affixes and Coiled Isle hunts. Nightmare Prey becomes available with the Season 2 reset and is the most important difficulty for players optimizing gear and high-end seasonal rewards.
The weekly Prey Hunt limit has increased to 15 hunts, but completing all 15 should not automatically be your weekly priority.
Focus on Prey when it contributes to:
- your World Great Vault row;
- Nightmare difficulty rewards;
- Preyseeker's Journey progression;
- Corrosive Soul acquisition;
- specific mounts, achievements or cosmetics.
Successful Season 2 Prey Hunts can award Corrosive Souls, which add special Corrosive effects to eligible armor for outdoor and related world content. These effects do not function inside raids or Mythic+ dungeons.
See our Midnight Prey guide for difficulty and route planning.
Step 7: Use the Catalyst After Major Weekly Drops
The Matrix Catalyst remains one of the most valuable bad-luck-protection systems in Season 2. The Season 2 charge is Venomblight Manaflux.
One charge converts one eligible armor item into its corresponding class-set piece.
Important Season 2 Catalyst rules:
- Eligible PvE items must generally be Veteran track or higher.
- Profession-crafted armor cannot be converted.
- Tier-set armor now retains the original item's secondary stats.
- Cantrip effects from the original item are also preserved.
- Venomblight Manaflux normally accumulates every two weeks.
Because secondary stats and cantrip effects are preserved, the base item you convert matters more than in older Catalyst systems. Do not blindly transform the first eligible chest, helm or legs you obtain.
Extra Catalyst Charge: Serpent Scion
The Midnight Season 2: Serpent Scion achievement grants an additional Catalyst charge when a character completes one of these goals:
- reach 1,600 rating in Rated PvP;
- reach 2,000 Mythic+ rating;
- defeat Ula'tek on Heroic or Mythic difficulty.
Catalyst Unbound
After obtaining your class four-piece bonus, Midnight Season 2: Catalyst Unbound allows additional Catalyst charges to drop from endgame content including:
- Mythic+;
- Season 2 raid bosses;
- Bountiful Delves;
- Rated PvP.
For every class bonus, token source and Catalyst slot, use our Midnight Season 2 tier-set guide.
Step 8: Plan Nebulous Voidcore Bonus Rolls
Nebulous Voidcore provides another way to target loot from endgame activities instead of relying only on the normal drop and Great Vault systems.
In Season 2, Voidcores can be used after eligible:
- raid or Lair bosses;
- Mythic+ completions;
- Bountiful Delves;
- Nightmare Prey Hunts.
The first Season 2 Great Vault does not offer a Voidcore. Beginning with the second weekly Vault, characters with at least three unlocked Vault choices can select a Voidcore instead of normal gear.
Season 2 also reduces the raid bonus-roll cost to one Voidcore, making targeted raid loot substantially more practical than during the original Season 1 implementation.
Do not spend Voidcores randomly. Use the raid loot table and M+ loot table first and identify the smallest useful loot pool containing the item you actually need.
Step 9: Craft Only After Comparing Weekly Drops
Crafted gear is the deterministic part of your Season 2 gearing plan. It is most valuable when it repairs a weak slot that would otherwise require repeated random drops.
Before committing an expensive craft:
- Inspect your Great Vault.
- Complete your highest-priority raid bosses.
- Check whether your missing slot is a tier-set slot.
- Check whether a Catalyst conversion solves the same problem.
- Compare available Mythic+ and raid loot.
- Only then commit the Spark and crafting resources.
Avoid using a premium craft on a slot that is likely to be replaced immediately by a four-piece tier requirement or a targeted raid item.
Best Weekly Order for a Main Character
- After reset: inspect the Great Vault, weekly quests, Coffer Key Shards, Catalyst charges and current seasonal objectives.
- Raid: kill 2, 4 or ideally 6 bosses at the highest difficulty you can consistently clear.
- Mythic+: secure at least one strong Vault key, then work toward four and eight completions if the extra choices are valuable.
- World row: complete high-tier Delves and Nightmare Prey before filling remaining objectives with lower-value outdoor content.
- Bountiful Delves: spend Restored Coffer Keys at useful reward tiers and progress Delver's Journey.
- Catalyst: convert the strongest eligible item that completes or meaningfully advances your tier bonus.
- Crafting: fix the weakest important slot that remains after raid, Vault and Catalyst decisions.
- Before reset: verify all 2/4/6, 1/4/8 and 2/4/8 Vault thresholds and finish only objectives that materially improve a choice.
Fast Weekly Route for an Alt
You do not need nine Great Vault choices on every alternate character. A much better time-to-reward route is:
- kill 2 raid bosses for one Raid slot;
- complete 1 strong Mythic+ key for one Dungeon slot;
- complete 2 high-tier World activities for one World slot.
This produces three Vault choices across three different loot pools with far less playtime than fully completing all nine objectives.
It also satisfies the three-pane requirement that becomes relevant when Nebulous Voidcore is available from later Season 2 Vaults.
How Much Weekly Content Should You Actually Do?
| Character Type | Recommended Weekly Target |
|---|---|
| Fresh alt | 2 raid bosses + 1 good M+ + 2 high-value World activities |
| Regular main | 4-6 raid bosses + 4-8 strong M+ + 4-8 World activities |
| Progression main | 6 bosses at highest difficulty + 8 high keys + 8 high-tier World activities |
| M+ focused | Prioritize 8 strong keys, then enough raid/World content to cover tier and targeted upgrades |
| Solo player | 8 high-value World activities, Bountiful Delves, Nightmare Prey and selective Dungeon/Raid content |
The correct target is not “complete everything.” It is complete every activity that has a realistic chance to improve your character.
Midnight Season 2 Weekly Checklist Before Reset
- Did you unlock the number of Raid Vault choices you actually want: 2 / 4 / 6 bosses?
- Did you complete 1 / 4 / 8 Mythic+ dungeons at useful key levels?
- Did you complete 2 / 4 / 8 high-value World activities?
- Did you use or intentionally save your Restored Coffer Keys?
- Did you reach your weekly Coffer Key Shard target?
- Did you complete useful Nightmare Prey objectives?
- Did you check your Delver's Journey and seasonal rewards?
- Did you compare tier-set progress before spending Catalyst charges?
- Did you spend upgrade currencies only on gear worth keeping?
- Did you check whether a craft solves a remaining weak slot?
- Did you save Nebulous Voidcores for an actual targeted loot pool?
Common Weekly Gearing Mistakes
- Automatically taking the highest-item-level Great Vault item without checking tier bonuses or trinket value.
- Completing eight low keys when four or eight higher keys would dramatically improve Vault quality.
- Spending Catalyst charges before finishing important raid bosses.
- Using Restored Coffer Keys on low-tier Delves when higher tiers are already available.
- Doing all 15 Prey Hunts without needing the rewards or progression.
- Ignoring the 2/4/6 Raid Vault breakpoints.
- Crafting a tier slot immediately before obtaining a set piece.
- Using Nebulous Voidcores without first checking the available loot pool.
- Trying to fully cap every activity on every alt.
Midnight Season 2 Weekly Checklist FAQ
How many Mythic+ dungeons do I need for the Great Vault?
You need 1, 4 and 8 completed dungeons to unlock the three Dungeon choices. Their quality is based on your highest, fourth-highest and eighth-highest completed runs.
How many raid bosses do I need?
The Raid row unlocks at 2, 4 and 6 bosses. Difficulty determines the quality of the corresponding reward.
How many Delves do I need for the Great Vault?
The World row unlocks after 2, 4 and 8 qualifying activities. Delves are only one source; Prey and other outdoor objectives can also contribute.
What Mythic+ level gives Myth gear in the Vault?
A completed +10 awards a Great Vault option at item level 318, Myth 1/6. Completing four or eight +10s allows the corresponding additional Dungeon choices to reach the same level.
Should I use the Catalyst immediately after reset?
Usually no. First compare your Vault, raid opportunities and other guaranteed upgrades. Catalyst charges are most valuable when they complete a two-piece or four-piece bonus using a strong base item.
What should I prioritize if I have very little time?
For an alt or limited-playtime character, aim for 2 raid bosses, one strong Mythic+ dungeon and two high-tier World activities. This creates three Great Vault choices from different loot pools without requiring a full weekly grind.
