WoW Forever Barrow Deeps Raid Guide: Bosses, Entrance, Loot and Requirements

WoW Forever Barrow Deeps Raid Guide: Bosses, Entrance, Loot and Requirements

Barrow Deeps is a new maximum-level 10-player raid in World of Warcraft: Forever. It unlocks on December 9, 2026 alongside Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair, and Blizzard's Legacy System confirms that the raid contains eight boss encounters. The raid explores the ancient underground barrow network used by the night elves to guard dangerous prisoners, with three entrances located across Azeroth and one confirmed entrance in Mount Hyjal.

Short answer: Barrow Deeps is Forever's smaller launch raid, built for 10 level-60 players and eight bosses. Treat it as a standalone endgame raid rather than a confirmed extension of Blackmaw Hold: Blizzard has not announced a mandatory Blackmaw clear or full-raid attunement, and the exact function of the three raid entrances is still unknown.

Updated: September 24, 2026. Blizzard officially confirms eight Barrow Deeps bosses through the Legacy System. The encounter names below come from current Forever beta-client Legacy data and may still change before launch; boss mechanics and individual loot tables have not yet been publicly tested or published.

Barrow Deeps Release Date and Raid Size

Barrow Deeps opens globally on December 9, 2026, five weeks after World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4. It is designed as a maximum-level raid for 10 players, making it substantially smaller than Hyjal Summit's 20-player format and the returning 40-player Onyxia's Lair.

Raid Size10 players

The 10-player format makes Barrow Deeps the most compact new raid roster at launch. Every raid slot represents a larger percentage of the group's total tanking, healing, damage and utility than it would in a 20- or 40-player raid, so balanced class coverage should matter even if the final encounters do not require specific classes.

Barrow Deeps Location and Entrances

Barrow Deeps is an underground night elf complex with three entrances located in different parts of the world. Blizzard has confirmed Mount Hyjal as the location of one entrance but has not publicly identified the other two or published final entrance coordinates.

Blackmaw Hold is directly connected to Barrow Deeps in Blizzard's presentation: the level-55-60 furbolg dungeon has tunnels that run deep enough to reach the raid. That connection does not establish Blackmaw Hold as the only raid entrance, and Blizzard has not announced a mandatory dungeon clear before raiding.

Mount Hyjal Entrance

Mount Hyjal contains one of the three confirmed Barrow Deeps entrances. Blizzard presents Hyjal as a new endgame leveling zone and as the home of the Hyjal Summit raid, so it will be an important staging area when the first raids unlock in December.

Beta exploration has produced community coordinates for a possible Hyjal entrance, but Blizzard has not published final coordinates. For that reason, this guide does not treat a beta map marker as a permanent live-server entrance location.

Blackmaw Hold Connection

Blackmaw Hold is the new level-55-60 dungeon behind the furbolg gates in northern Azshara. Blizzard's presentation describes a furbolg city struggling with corruption, while current preview material places tunnels from the dungeon on the path toward Barrow Deeps.

Run Blackmaw Hold as late-level progression and connected story content, not because a mandatory Barrow Deeps prerequisite has been announced. No published source currently requires a Blackmaw final-boss kill for raid entry, but beta data does contain a separate access item for an internal Barrow Deeps area, so the final access rules should remain marked as unresolved.

Barrow Deeps Bosses

Blizzard's Legacy System now officially confirms that Barrow Deeps contains eight bosses. Current beta-client Legacy data also exposes all eight encounter names, but those names remain pre-release data and their listed order should not be treated as a confirmed kill order until the raid itself becomes playable.

The eight names are supported by current beta-client Legacy data, while Blizzard's September 23 Legacy article independently confirms the eight-boss total. Neither source provides encounter ability names, phases, tank swaps, dispel or interrupt requirements, or boss-specific loot. Any guide assigning exact skills or drops to these bosses before playable raid data appears would be speculative.

Barrow Deeps Boss Order

The eight names in current Legacy data are not enough to establish the actual route through the raid. The client list is not a verified physical progression order, and Blizzard has not explained whether the three entrances lead to different wings, alternative starting points or the same internal route.

A reliable progression order therefore needs the playable raid map and encounter gates. Until those are available, guides should keep the eight bosses as a roster rather than numbering them as a confirmed route.

Barrow Deeps Story

Blizzard describes Barrow Deeps as a sacred night elf location connected by winding barrow tunnels that may stretch across a vast underground network. The complex also serves a darker purpose: the night elves keep some of their most dangerous prisoners there.

Blizzard specifically teased that an infamous demon hunter was once imprisoned there and suggested that players may see his prison. The presentation did not name that character or announce him as a boss, so the reference should not be converted into a confirmed encounter.

The prison theme gives Barrow Deeps a different role from Hyjal Summit. Hyjal is focused on the wounded mountain and the power being drained from it, while Barrow Deeps takes players underneath the surface into sealed spaces where the night elves placed threats they did not want loose in the world.

Barrow Deeps Loot and Tier Sets

Blizzard introduced Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit alongside new raid tier sets and a still-unrevealed Legendary reward. The Forever beta also contains new raid-tier set data and items that explicitly reference Barrow Deeps, but no complete boss-by-boss Barrow Deeps loot table has been published.

The current beta contains new class and specialization tier-set data, but the available records do not reliably assign individual tier pieces to specific Barrow Deeps bosses. Datamined items such as Malleable Essence of Nature reference Barrow Deeps as a raid source, while Brooch of the Wardens references access to Vord'anaar Prison inside the raid; neither item establishes a boss-specific loot table.

The correct farming table will need to show boss, item, armor or weapon type, eligible classes and relevant set bonuses once raid drop sources are exposed. Until then, do not assign tier pieces, weapons or chase items to individual bosses. Pre-raid gearing can still focus on the level-60 dungeon pool, including Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace once their final live loot is available.

Barrow Deeps and the New Legendary

Blizzard introduced Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit alongside new tier sets and a Legendary reward, making both raids relevant to Forever's larger endgame progression. A separate new Legendary questline is scheduled for Spring 2027.

The available information does not establish which launch raid, boss or quest awards the teased Legendary reward. The separate Spring 2027 roadmap entry is a new Legendary questline, and Blizzard has not announced that it is a continuation of the launch-raid Legendary reward.

Do not label any Barrow Deeps boss as the Legendary source until Blizzard reveals the launch reward's actual acquisition method.

Barrow Deeps Attunement and Entry Requirements

No full-raid Barrow Deeps attunement has been announced. Blizzard describes it as a maximum-level 10-player raid unlocking on December 9. However, current beta data includes Brooch of the Wardens, an item whose tooltip grants access to Vord'anaar Prison within Barrow Deeps, so internal access requirements may exist even though a raid-wide attunement has not been published.

RequirementStatus
Level 60Required as maximum-level raid content
10-player raidOfficial raid size
Blackmaw Hold clearNo mandatory requirement announced
Access itemBrooch of the Wardens appears in beta data for access to Vord'anaar Prison; full-raid requirement unknown
ReputationNo required standing announced
Quest chainNo mandatory attunement chain announced

Blackmaw Hold should therefore be viewed as connected progression rather than a confirmed raid-wide attunement. The Brooch of the Wardens is evidence that at least one internal prison area may use an access item, but its source, permanence and relationship to the three world entrances are not yet established.

Blizzard has not published role requirements or boss mechanics for Barrow Deeps, so no composition can yet be called mandatory. The setup below is only a conservative starting template for a 10-player progression group and should be adjusted once encounters are testable.

RolePractical Starting SetupReason
Tanks2Conservative placeholder until encounter tank requirements are known.
Healers2, with a third-healer optionFlexible baseline only; actual healing requirements are not published.
DPS6 with two healers, or 5 with threeFills the remaining roster after the provisional tank and healer setup.

Until mechanics are known, prioritize general raid coverage: interrupts, dispels, crowd control, combat resurrection where available and group buffs. Do not stack a class or role around mechanics that have not been published.

Hybrid classes can provide useful roster flexibility in a 10-player group, but their exact value will depend on the final encounter design.

How Much Gear Do You Need for Barrow Deeps?

Blizzard has not published a required item level or gear score for Barrow Deeps. The safest preparation target is a coherent level-60 pre-raid set assembled from the high-level dungeon circuit, strong quest rewards, Dungeon Set upgrades, professions and relevant reputation rewards.

Prioritize major weaknesses before chasing marginal upgrades. Because no Barrow Deeps damage checks or encounter profiles are public, avoid publishing a minimum item-level, resistance target or boss-specific stat threshold until testing supports it.

Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace are particularly relevant because they are Forever's new level-60 dungeons, but they are not the only sources. Dire Maul, Scholomance, Stratholme, Blackrock Spire and other high-level instances remain part of the gearing route.

How to Prepare Before December 9

The most efficient Barrow Deeps preparation is to finish the systems that improve the entire raid roster rather than farming speculative resistance gear or guessed boss-specific consumables.

  1. Reach level 60. Barrow Deeps is maximum-level content.
  2. Finish your core pre-raid gear. Replace weak leveling pieces and secure an appropriate primary weapon.
  3. Complete high-value dungeon quests. Forever increases the importance of dungeon quest rewards.
  4. Organize a stable 10-player roster. Smaller raids have less room to absorb missing roles or utility.
  5. Prepare consumables carefully. Current beta data includes several flasks with additional effects in Mount Hyjal, Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps, but values and availability can still change before launch.
  6. Learn the Mount Hyjal route. One of the raid's three entrances is confirmed there; no special travel unlock has been announced.
  7. Run Blackmaw Hold. It provides late-level progression and establishes the story leading toward Barrow Deeps even though no mandatory raid attunement is currently announced.

Conquerer of the Deeps Legacy Challenge

Clearing all eight Barrow Deeps encounters completes the raid's Legacy challenge and awards 1 Legacy Point. Blizzard's Legacy System is account-wide outside Hardcore, so defeating the raid contributes to progression beyond the character that earns the initial clear.

Blizzard's September 23 Legacy article officially confirms the eight-encounter count. Current beta-client Legacy data supplies the encounter names: Deepscar Matriarch, Elder Tangleclaw, Khalith the Dreadspinner, Well of Sorrow, Amethrax, Del'lynar Songwood, Ravus and Darlissa, and Sonya Darkhallow. Those names remain pre-release data until launch.

Conclusion

Barrow Deeps gives Forever an endgame raid structure that original level-60 WoW did not have at launch: a dedicated 10-player raid alongside 20-player Hyjal Summit and 40-player Onyxia's Lair. Its three-entrance design and night elf prison setting are confirmed, but Blizzard has not yet explained how those entrances affect the internal route.

The most useful preparation is to arrive at level 60 with a balanced ten-player roster and strong pre-raid gear while treating Blackmaw Hold as connected progression rather than a confirmed attunement. Blizzard has officially established the eight-boss count; the current beta client supplies eight encounter names, while abilities, boss order and individual loot tables still need playable raid data before they can be written as fact.
