WoW Forever Tier List: Best Classes & Specs for Leveling, DPS & PvP

WoW Forever Tier List: Best Classes & Specs for Leveling, DPS & PvP

Our WoW Forever tier list ranks all nine classes for leveling, PvE DPS, raids, dungeons, healing, tanking, and PvP. This update incorporates Blizzard's October 15 beta build, posted on October 16, alongside the latest ForeverDB level-30 results and MythicSim level-60 simulations.

Hunter is now our top overall recommendation. Its combination of reliable leveling, solo play, ranged damage, and multiple competitive DPS builds is difficult to match. Paladin remains the strongest choice for players who want the freedom to tank, heal, or deal damage without rerolling.

These rankings are a pre-launch evaluation, not a definitive launch meta. The playable beta is capped at level 30, while level-60 raid performance is still projected through simulations. We keep those two evidence sets separate.

WoW Forever Class Tier List — Overall Rankings

The overall tier list answers one question: which class is worth choosing as your main? We consider performance across several activities, not only a single-target damage chart. Role flexibility, downtime, mobility, utility, PvP tools, gear dependence, and the practicality of strong builds all matter.

TierClassesWhy they rank here
SHunter, PaladinHunter has the strongest combination of easy progression and high DPS potential. Paladin covers three roles and brings excellent defensives and group utility.
AWarrior, Warlock, Mage, Shaman, Priest, DruidWarrior has strong tanking and Fury DPS projections. Warlock excels at solo play. Mage offers control and AoE. Shaman brings raid buffs. Priest provides healing and PvP pressure. Druid offers unmatched role versatility.
BRogueExcellent Stealth and PvP utility, but its current simulated raid DPS and group flexibility provide a weaker overall package. B Tier does not mean weak in duels or Battlegrounds.

Why Hunter Takes First Place

Hunter has two important advantages: strong performance during the actual leveling journey and a competitive endgame projection. In ForeverDB's current level-30 simulation, Beast Mastery reaches 105.3 DPS and Marksmanship 99.5. In MythicSim's level-60 reference, Survival leads at 1,093 DPS without trinkets, with Marksmanship at 942 and Beast Mastery at 848.

However, Survival's projected lead depends heavily on melee weaving: stepping into melee range between ranged attacks to use additional abilities. That technique may be difficult or unsafe during actual raid mechanics. The Hunter recommendation does not depend on every player reproducing the simulator's perfect movement.

Why Paladin Remains S Tier

Paladin offers a different kind of value. A Retribution build can deal damage, Protection can tank, and Holy provides healing. Defensive cooldowns and support abilities make Paladin attractive for players who want flexibility.

The October 15 build reduced Champion of the Light's spell-damage conversion from Intellect and corrected several Holy damage coefficients. These changes weaken the case for treating experimental Shockadin as the automatic best endgame build. Standard Retribution still reaches 866 DPS in the latest level-60 reference.

Where Warrior, Shaman and Rogue Stand

Warrior benefits substantially from current level-60 raid simulations: Fury is the leading conventional non-Hunter melee competitor at 944 DPS, with Arms at 813. Its weakness remains the more demanding leveling experience, particularly when weapons and recovery are poor.

Shaman has a different split. Enhancement leads the current level-30 damage simulation, while the level-60 single-target reference is less impressive. But the October changes make several Shaman totems raid-wide, raising the value of bringing a Shaman beyond individual DPS.

Rogue should not be dismissed as a PvP class simply because its damage simulations are lower. Stealth, Sap, controlled engagements and resets remain valuable in duels, open-world encounters and Battleground objectives.

WoW Forever Level 30 DPS Tier List

ForeverDB models 20 damage specializations at the playable beta cap. Its current default test uses one same-level target, a 60-second encounter and 1,000 simulated fights. These figures reflect the simulator's recommended gear and builds rather than actual raid logs.

RankDPS SpecSimulated DPS

2Beast Mastery Hunter105.3
3Retribution Paladin104.8
4Marksmanship Hunter99.5
5Demonology Warlock97.6
6Fire Mage97.2
7Fury Warrior96.9
8Survival Hunter94.4
9Affliction Warlock92.8
10Frost Mage92.5

The remaining simulated specs are Destruction Warlock (90.9), Balance Druid (90.2), Shadow Priest (87.5), Arcane Mage (84.2), Elemental Shaman (84.1), Arms Warrior (82.0), Combat Rogue (81.9), Assassination Rogue (78.8), Subtlety Rogue (78.3), and Feral Cat Druid (66.4).

Important: A 60-second single-target simulation does not measure dungeon AoE, target switching, threat, healing, utility, PvP pressure or movement. It should not be interpreted as a universal PvE tier list. ForeverDB also does not simulate healer and tank performance in this ranking.

WoW Forever Level 60 DPS Tier List — Raid Projections

MythicSim's latest board incorporates the October 16 client update and uses 10,000 iterations with fixed reference builds against a single raid-boss target. It includes full raid buffs and consumables, without world buffs. The figures below use the simulator's no-trinket results.

Some builds remain on older simulation snapshots, and reference rotations are still being improved. These numbers are projections for a theoretical level-60 environment, not combat logs from live raids.

What Changed Since the Previous Simulation?

SpecPrevious referenceLatest referenceInterpretation
Survival Hunter7831,093A major increase, strongly influenced by build and melee-weaving assumptions
Marksmanship Hunter761942Benefits from engine corrections and updated raid-buff modeling
Fury Warrior860944Remains one of the strongest projected raid DPS choices
Shockadin Paladin995954Experimental hybrid no longer leads
Retribution Paladin810866Still competitive despite recent talent reductions

These comparisons use the references previously recorded in our October 15 article and the latest available no-trinket outputs. They are not controlled before-and-after patch experiments: equipment, builds, simulation engines and raid-buff handling have also changed.

Is Survival Hunter Really the Best Raid DPS?

Survival currently wins the model, but not necessarily a real boss encounter. MythicSim's reference includes attacks during carefully timed movement into melee range. A raid with dangerous positioning requirements, forced movement, mechanics that interrupt weaving or different encounter lengths could produce another ranking.

For players who prioritize a more conventional melee DPS direction, Fury Warrior deserves serious consideration. Marksmanship Hunter also remains a strong projected option, but its reference includes some weaving. None of these results guarantees an optimal raid composition.

WoW Forever Leveling Tier List

The best leveling class is not always the highest DPS class. Leveling from 1 to 60 rewards short recovery periods, survivability, useful travel abilities, low gear dependence and the ability to handle unexpected pulls.

TierClassesLeveling advantage
SHunter, MageHunter offers pet tanking and consistent ranged pressure; Mage offers AoE, control, food, water and travel utility.
AWarlock, Paladin, Druid, ShamanPets, healing, self-sustain, utility or flexible combat tools.
BPriest, RogueReliable but more dependent on pacing, resources or selecting favorable engagements.
CWarriorMore sensitive to weapon upgrades, incoming damage and downtime during solo leveling.

Best beginner leveling class: Hunter. Best skilled AoE leveling class: Mage. Best durable hybrid: Paladin. Best self-sustaining solo alternative: Warlock.

These are qualitative leveling recommendations based mainly on current beta toolkits. They are not measured full 1–60 speedrun rankings.

WoW Forever Tank and Healer Tier Lists

Best Tanks

TierTankBest use
SProtection WarriorDedicated mitigation, boss positioning and a reliable defensive toolkit
AProtection PaladinDungeon utility, AoE threat and defensive flexibility
BFeral Bear DruidAdaptable off-tanking and multi-role utility

Protection Warrior remains our editorial first choice for predictable dedicated tanking. Protection Paladin is a legitimate alternative, especially in dungeons. The October update increased Righteous Fury's Holy threat bonus to 90%, but also adjusted several Paladin damage coefficients and resource interactions.

MythicSim includes tank DPS simulations. Those charts do not measure effective health, damage intake, threat stability or healer requirements. We do not use tank damage alone to declare the best main tank.

Best Healers

TierHealersStrength
SRestoration DruidFlexible healing, mobility, HoTs and recovery options
ADiscipline Priest, Holy Priest, Holy PaladinAbsorbs, versatile direct healing and focused tank healing
BRestoration ShamanStrong group utility; raid-wide Totem changes improve its support value

Restoration Druid is our general-purpose recommendation, not a measured healing-per-second champion. Holy Priest remains an approachable direct healer, Discipline Priest offers preventive tools, and Holy Paladin is a strong focused-healing option.

Restoration Shaman deserves special attention for organized raids after the October changes. Several totem buffs now affect the whole raid, and Mana Tide receives an additional rank at level 38. That does not prove Shaman has the highest healing output, but its raid-support value is greater than an isolated healer ranking might suggest.

WoW Forever PvP Tier List

PvP rankings depend on the format. A strong duel specialist can perform differently in premade Battlegrounds or open-world combat. No reliable large-scale level-60 PvP statistics exist yet, so these are toolkit-based predictions.

PvP formatS TierA TierKey advantage
DuelsDiscipline Priest, Soul Link WarlockSubtlety Rogue, Frost Mage, HunterSustain, control, defensive tools and resets
Premade BattlegroundsHunter, Discipline PriestRestoration Druid, Shaman, Frost Mage, WarlockPressure, healing, crowd control and objective play
World PvPHunter, DruidSubtlety Rogue, Frost Mage, WarlockMobility, tracking, Stealth and disengagement

How the October Update Affects PvP

Hunter pets remain useful, but several control effects were reduced. Crocolisk Dismember now applies 25% healing reduction for 6 seconds with a 15-second cooldown. Bat Sonic Blast now reduces casting speed by 30% for 20 seconds with a 60-second cooldown. These changes make older pet-based PvP rankings unreliable.

Warlock remains attractive because of Fear, pet utility and Soul Link, while Discipline Priest provides a combination of healing, shields and pressure. Mage and Rogue remain dangerous when players use crowd control and reset opportunities correctly.

Best WoW Forever Classes for Raids and Dungeons

A useful raid composition needs more than the highest simulated damage. Tanks, healers, dispels, threat management, raid-wide buffs and encounter-specific utility may have a larger impact than a small DPS advantage.

Raid or dungeon needStrong candidatesReason
Projected single-target raid DPSSurvival Hunter, Fury Warrior, Marksmanship HunterLeading current level-60 reference outputs

Dedicated boss tankingProtection Warrior, Protection PaladinThreat, defensives and encounter control
Healing rosterRestoration Druid, Priest, Paladin, Restoration ShamanComplementary healing tools
Dungeon control and safetyMage, Hunter, Warlock, RogueCrowd control, pulls, pets and interrupts

Key October raid change: Grace of Air can now coexist with Windfury, while Grace of Air, Strength of Earth, Windfury and Flametongue totems affect the raid rather than only one party. Druid Leader of the Pack also provides raid-wide melee and ranged critical-strike support. These changes affect composition planning and simulation outputs.

There are no established live level-60 raid parses for WoW Forever. Treat a projected raid DPS table as preparation, not a final best-in-slot roster.

October 15 Beta Patch: Class Changes That Matter

Blizzard published the latest class-tuning build on October 16 under its October 15 development notes. The following changes have direct implications for these rankings.

  • Hunter: Auto Shot requires 0.5 seconds of standing still; pet inheritance and trap interactions received corrections.
  • Paladin: Champion of the Light now converts 10/20/30% of Intellect into spell damage. Righteous Fury's Holy threat bonus increased to 90%. Multiple damage coefficients were corrected.
  • Shaman: Elemental Mastery returned as the 31-point talent, Lava Burst moved to 21 points and Earthbound to 16. Fire Nova was reduced, while several totems became raid-wide.
  • Druid: Leader of the Pack is raid-wide. Furor retains previously held Cat Form Energy when changing forms, and free Faerie Fire no longer triggers Omen of Clarity.
  • Mage: Fire and Arcane talents were revised. Ice Lance's bonus against frozen targets fell from 300% to 200%, while Cone of Cold received improvements against smaller groups.
  • Priest: Devouring Plague cooldown decreased to 24 seconds; Shadow Word: Death cooldown increased to 18. Several Discipline and Shadow talents changed.
  • Warlock: Shadow Mastery now provides up to 10% extra Shadow spell damage, and Soul Link pet interactions received fixes.
  • Warrior: Battle Shout is now raid-wide, while several Arms and threat-related interactions were corrected.

Does Race Choice Change the Best Class?

The October update reworked several racial traits. Human Ruthless provides 2% critical-strike chance, Orc Savage provides 1%, Tauren Endurance increases critical damage and healing by 2%, and Skyborne Wind Blessed provides 3% Haste.

These bonuses can change the optimal race for a particular build. They do not automatically change our overall class ranking, which includes utility, leveling, roles and PvP alongside damage.

See our race and class combinations guide and best race for each class guide for the race-specific decision.

WoW Forever Tier List FAQ

What is the best class in WoW Forever?

Hunter is our current overall recommendation because it combines efficient leveling, strong solo play and several competitive damage specializations. Paladin is the better choice for players who want to tank, heal and DPS on one character.

What class has the highest DPS at level 30?

Enhancement Shaman currently leads ForeverDB's level-30 single-target reference with 113.6 DPS. This does not measure AoE or raid performance.

What is the best level-60 DPS class?

Survival Hunter currently leads MythicSim's reference at 1,093 DPS without trinkets, but the result uses demanding melee-weaving assumptions and is not a verified live raid ranking.

Is Fury Warrior better than Paladin for raid DPS?

In the current fixed level-60 reference, Fury Warrior produces 944 DPS versus Retribution Paladin's 866. Paladin still provides additional role flexibility and support. Actual raid results may differ.

What is the best class for fast leveling?

Hunter is our safest general recommendation. Skilled Mage players may be faster in suitable AoE routes, but no complete, controlled level 1–60 comparison is available yet.

Which class is best for PvP?

It depends on the format. Discipline Priest and Soul Link Warlock are strong duel choices, Hunter is useful in Battlegrounds, and Rogue remains dangerous in Stealth-based play.

What are the best healer and tank classes?

Restoration Druid is our flexible healing pick and Protection Warrior our dedicated tank recommendation. Holy Priest, Holy Paladin, Discipline Priest, Restoration Shaman and Protection Paladin remain useful alternatives depending on group requirements.

Should I reroll before WoW Forever launches?

Not solely because of one simulation. Balance tuning, character level, encounter mechanics, gear and build execution can change rankings. Choose a class whose normal gameplay and available roles suit you.
